More importantly this year, there's a lot of replication capacity coming online shortly, so the studios can start putting out more releases. (This has been an ongoing issue for awhile now, but should be resolved going forward.) Q3 is already over 200 announced and dated titles and Q4 will be considerably larger than that once the "official" announcements are made. By "really" crappy do you mean the potential Oscar-winners? Late Jan. - April is when they dump the crap. May - Aug is when they release everything that requires more testosterone than brain cells to enjoy -- though New Line and Universal seem to have figured out that women still go to movies too during the summer. And of course Disney/Pixar know the kids are out of school. Sept - October is a bit of a transition, as they move from summer blockbusters to the critical "darlings," with a brief stop for horror-fest just before Halloween. A lot of cool independent films come out in limited release in this period, though. Nov - Dec is true Oscar season (apparently no voting members of the Academy can remember a movie for more than 2 months after they see it), plus a couple of blockbusters to be released for the holidays. |
