This is the holy grail of television series for me. I hope it is true.

Call me crazy...but I never got into the TV show. It always seemed to be too cheesy to me.

I am, by no means, saying that it's a bad show that - just not my style.

You're not crazy. Many people apologetically hate this show

I used to watch this show in reruns as a kid during the 80s, and I liked it as a kid, but I don't think I can watch it again now.

I have the whole series on DVD already. Probably will not buy the professionally released version.

From what I have read, it is only scheduled at this time for standard DVD. I also have a feeling that since I have previously heard of the project called the complete Batman that it may well end up being one of those Time-Life projects. This is pure speculation on my part but if they do release it all at once, then I wouldn't be surprised to learn this is the way it will go. And if it does go Time-Life, then the chances of it being on Blu are probably nil.

I'd prefer this on DVD over Blu so the video is closer to the original broadcasts.

Yes, Batman was cheesey and corny. But what a number of people seem to forget is that it was never meant to be taken seriously—it was supposed to be comedic. Even the comic books went through stages of silliness to serious. But there is no mistaking the contribution the series' creators made to the Batman mythos. I love it for the pure nostalgia and the throwback to a more innocent time. My hope is that Fox's recent release of "Batman: The Movie" on Blu-ray was a way of testing the waters. If they didn't feel there would be a demand for the series on high definition, why bother releasing the movie? Logic dictates that it is being considered and Warner has pretty much stated that they want to work towards all future releases being on both formats.

I'll go one further. There used to be a subgenre called "cornball humour", featuring egregious puns, deliberately groanworthy gags and so on. Batman is part of this obsolete comic mode. (Another example: early MAD magazine.) The audience isn't always meant to laugh -- some of it is deliberately painful or overused, like the routines in a pantomime, in the music hall etc.
