If I had to guess, they have a formula built in, so a week prior to adding those titles to some sort of sale, they make them quick-picks for everyone who has a wish-list/browser history that meets certain criteria.....
I think it's more calculated, and less random than one would think..... but that's just my "crazy" theory ![]() |

BTW, guys didn't the quick picks discount used to be like 5%. For me these days it only seems to be like a 2-3% or so discount. Is this normal?
Here's how to get your quick picks be only or mostly BDs (you will get a few DVDs with this method but no power tools): 1. Turn off the browsing history (for amazon.com -- not the history in your browser). 2. Delete everything in your wish lists -- all of your lists. Or if you must keep them, delete just the stuff in your wish list that's not a BD (but I think things on your wish list are never made quick picks or is it just me?) 3. Do not rate anything that is not a BD and remove any ratings for non-BDs. 4. For anything you own that's not a BD, do not rate it (and clear the rating if you have already) and also select BOTH: ...........a. Do not use for recommendations ...........b. This was a gift 5. For all the BDs you own, rate them if possible. 6. (Optional) Never say "not interested" when a recommendation comes up that's not a BD; I've found that just makes your not interested list too big. You know what baffles me is that I sometimes used to get HD-DVD titles in my quick picks and recommendations. I've never purchased an HD-DVD player or Xbox 360 or anything remotely HD-DVD related. I think they need to actually have a check box that says not interested in HD-DVDs and also one for not interested in DVDs that are on BD or are announced for BD. edit: I forgot, 1.5 Delete anything in your shopping cart including saved for later items that are not BD. 1.75 Whenever you order something non-BD, that same day or soon after mark it as not to be used for recommendations AND as a gift -- this way you won't forget. What I normally do is go to "my amazon" and remove everything that is not blu-ray related. Just check off "not interested" on everything that is not a blu-ray movie. Also if you rate some to the movies in blu it helps also. Everything in my goldbox is blu movies right now.
