Default What's the Most $ you Would Pay for a BD Movie?

Hi all,

I just registered although I've been lurking for a while.
I've been enjoying reading all the good topics.

Is there a maximum you guys will pay for a Blu-Ray movie?
I live in Ontario, Canada, and some of the pricing is absolutely ridiculous.

$46.99 for a copy of Benchwarmers?? + tax? Hello, is anyone listening?
When I saw that at Future Shop, I told the store manager I want to see the person who priced this title so I could ream him out. (They blamed head office)

It's not that I'm a cheapskate, I'm really not, and I'm prepared to pay a premium for the new technology, but blatant gouging makes my blood boil.

I suppose for me, my maximum I'm prepared to pay for a BD movie is $30 (tax included)

Do you guys have a personal limit?

Thanks for reading my post and my semi-rant.

AJ

Well, I wouldn't pay a dime for benchwarmers, but I did pay $82 for the Sopranos 6 box. Of course, that's not much more than list price for the regular DVD version box. Can't wait for the other seasons.

was it blu-ray?? or was it HD-DVD?? if it was HD-DVD, it was probaly a combo. The most I paid for one was $32.99 for MI3 at BB, and I will never do that again, cause I saw it a week later at willow games for $19.99. but they only had a total of 4 titles all for $19.99 (saw3, MI3, X-men3, and T2)
I was so mad

Frankly, the store should be paying you to take that movie away! And $46.99? That has to be a crime.

I hope this link works:

This is borderline criminal!

Stranger than Fiction is $47.99, LOL, I guess they think it's worth a buck more than Benchwarmers, haha.

Oddly enough, even though no FutreShops have the goddamn title, they had Departed in todays flyer in both Blu and HD and they had the HD-DVD at 5.00 higher than the Blu. Now if they could just get one bloody copy between them! Although they have crap-loads of the HD version.

Default in canada..

just looking thru their shelf prices I've found that Future Shop tends to be more expensive than BB for some reason...sometimes a lot more. Even though BB is supposed to be the "upscale" store. They also seem to be pricing HD-DVD lower than BB and BB is the opposite - generally speaking - mileage may vary. I'd rather just order it on-line from Amazon.

Having said that the Future Shop flyer today has The Departed ($27.99) on Blu-ray for $5 cheaper than the HD-DVD version and the same price as the DVD 2-disc version PLUS $5 of one of 4 other blu-ray titles - Goodfellas, Million Dollar Baby, Last Samurai and I forget the last one.

Not sure if it applies to HD-DVD or not because I don't care about HD-DVD.

I've decided that $30 is the limit for me. Blockbuster Total Access is a big part off my strategy while I wait for the prices to drop.

Most I paid was 39$ + tax, that was for "Kingdom of Heaven" which I could only find at HMV. But I would consider 30$ to be the most I would pay for a Blu-Ray movie. Cheapest place I have found for Blu-Ray movies is at "Metro Video" here in Montreal, Quebec. Metro Video has a movie priced at 28$ while the same movie is at Futureshop for 39$. I'd say that's one great big difference....oh, they also sell DVDs for a lot less than FS.

I hear you Dave.

I'm in Kingston. I went to Future's and BB around noon on Tue to pick up The Departed on BD, and both places told me "Sorry we sold out"

I asked them if they ordered like 5 copies. Buncha dummies.
I have a hunch they trying to create a false demand buy only having a few titles available, I don't know, I don't trust them, I wouldn't put it past them to try some trickery.

At BB, I look on the shelf, and there's 50 copies on HD, and not one on BD, so I tell the guy "well, I guess this shows who is winning the format war"
The guy argues with me and says this doesnt show anything, and how it's an isolated incidence.

What a dick!

Cheers

$29.99 is my magic number, and even then I have to really will it.

If they start putting out some SE or limited sets, I would probably be tempted though. So far extras scream "wait for the double dip!" on so many titles.

Heres hoping the promotionals pick up with the Euro PS3 launch!

24 for regular releases.

TV shows I dont know yet. Maybe 60.

Importing also sounds like a good idea, I may crack on a few of those if we dont get some US release dates soon!
