How do you think light sabers work under the hood? I have an Idea on how they could work
When the button is pressed, it activates system that releases High energy positively charged ions. and to make the blade rise out of the hilt, negatively charged waves bombard the positively charged Ions causing them to repel, the waves would have to be controlled to prevent a super long blade of course. What are your ideas? |

you don't need the force to turn on a lightsaber (some people think this for some reason) han solo and general greivous both used lightsabers in the movies and had no force abilities. |

Correct, its just a weapon in anyones hands and you dont have to be a jedi to use one. luke was not a jedi yet in empire and he used it.

The question is how do they get a laser beam to stop only a couple of feet after it's start point? I'm baffled.

They don't... they are special effects.
If they did work, you'd need a welders mask or you'd have a bad case of "Arc Eye" from holding 4 feet of plasma about 3 feet from your eye. That of course would be the least of your worries as you wouldn't be able to see your enemies due to the welders mask. By then you would have been zapped, Jedi or not. PS. If they were feasible, George Lucas would have marketed them by now... just to wring a bit more cash out of the franchise ![]() |

I think one would make one Heck of a cheese slicer. That is if you had a small enough one.
