When was blue ray developed???

I am doing an assignment at school and couldnt find when blue ray was developed. Could anyone help me with this.

not to be picky or anything but the proper spelling is Blu-ray.
besides that, Sony developed Blu-ray first in 2002, which was the same year the BDA was formed. 2004 was a major year in demonstrating Blu-ray technology and developing it furthur. It wasn't until mid-august 2006 when Sony released its first Blu-ray player. In August 2006, 100 and 200 gb disks were created and demonstrated.

actualy the first blu-ray player or optical drive on the market was in japan feb 10th 2003...it was in a protective cart. an the speed was 1x
