Angry As much as I love Blu-Ray.....

As much as I love Blu-Ray, I cant stand it when people retailers and even advertisements have to besmirch the good name of Blu by referring to it as "Blu-Ray DVD" What is so hard about saying disc??? I can be very anal, but it drives me crazy when my friends just agitate me and argue that by definition it is a DVD, but I tell them that it is not only NOT a DVD but is created through far superior technology than that of DVD. They still refuse to acknowledge it as Blu-Ray Disc. Does anyone else get annoyed by this???

i have a gripe too about Blu-ray....

my collection of 150 blus has not gotten me any extra tail from the ladies, I was sure Blu-ray was a pu%%@ magnet....I figured crystal clear picture and crisp audio would make them all "in the mood", boy was I wrong....

Im still trying to bare the newest MTV generation. These kids buying into cash acts like Hannah Montana and HSM. Remember when MTV used to play music videos, and the network was about music with limited scripted/reality programming??? It seems like the older I get, the dumber I realize everyone after me is getting.

1. Blu-ray technology is not that different from DVD. I agree that Blu-ray is superior to DVD, but it is basically squeezing more BITS and BYTES on a disc.
2. Since all Blu-ray players can play DVD, the correct way of calling all of them is Blu-ray/DVD players or Blu-ray/DVD/CD players.
3. For the same reason since all DVD and Laser Disc players can play CD, they should be called DVD/CD and LD/CD players.
4. You must have too much time to worry about what or how people think or say. When I buy a Blu-ray movie, I just watch it and enjoy the movie. Although I prefer excellent PQ and lossless audio, I do not worry too much if they are not perfect. The last thing I worry about is what people call a particular technology.
5. As for therapy, I suggest that you order a few movies from http://www.bluraydvdmovies.net/. It will do you good.

What's in a name, really? It's not uncommon for people to bastardize an "official" name with someone they have some frame of reference with. For the majority of folks now, DVDs=home video.

And quite frankly, as long as the movies I want keep coming out at the rate they are, people could call them "dem dere shiny Blue discs what play movin' pictures," for all I care.

Sure can. Have you forgotten the Paramount HD DVD exclusive contract so soon?

People will call blu-ray (High Definition) DVD for years to come. The problem is the format looks the same and does nearly the same thing. It is just an improved DVD in their minds, though it is HD DVD which fits that moniker.

Had blu-ray come on 3" disc people would not call it DVD because it looks different. Did you notice much fewer people refer to DVD as VHS? Yet, people still call the recording of TV as "taping the show" - even though they own Tivo!

There is no accounting for taste, nor ignorance. Let it go.

The only time this bothers me is on ebay, because I don't trust them to know the difference.

I always e-mail the seller before I bid and on two occasions I received a reply stating something to the effect of "Wait, what do you mean, aren't they the same?"

That scares me. Other then that, you could pretty much call it Gong Gok Chicken for all I care.

Also, honestly...if you want to enjoy Blu-ray with a lady friend, then make sure everything leading up to it is special. Don't EVER tell them "No, I don't go to movies, because my Blu Theater is better." They want the experience, not the picture and audio quality.

Make it a worth while experience for them and they will come running.
You don't even have to spend a lot of money. Even if you just get take out...take the time to prepare it before hand and set a table and use your nice dishes and create a setting.

Brother, once you take care of all the little things and show her you care and you are interested in HER pq and aq...you won't be watching a freaking movie and the awesome sound of your theater will only be used to mask the awesome sound of her screaching and howling so the neighbors don't call the cops.

You have to want it.

Just keep repeating "BD", "BD", over and over again.

VHS, LD, DVD, BD, natural progression.

I'm amazed the DVD Forum hasn't released the hounds (i.e. lawyers) on them. Considering how much Toshiba has a hate on for Blu, you'd think they'd be screaming about it.
