Hello, just wanted to ask some of you on expert about audio on my receiver. I have a fairly old (3 years old receiver) with does not have any HDMI but it as toslink connections. Now, with all those new fancy receivers with HDMI built in them now a days, how much of a difference can will notice? Is the Toslink connection as good as HDMI connection? thanks

No. Optical bandwidth is about 125mbps, HDMI is about 10000mbps (shared with video of course, but still) Optical can't handle 5.1PCM
Depends on the speakers you use and how critical of a listener you are. With a $400 home theater in a box you probably won't notice. |
