Angry New recievers to replace old Sony, HELP!

Greetings all,

I am a newbiee to this site and to the audio department. I know basic stuff and then above some to get me by with home audio. Hell, I know more compared to Best Buy employees if that. However, I just bought a Yamaha 663 reciever days ago from Best Buy after doing researching online. I was happy with the features BUT it is a terrible time setting up in my view. The manual itself is over 105 pages and this is suppose to be fun??? LOL. Anyways I am not HAPPY due to the confusing item and want to get something different. I am smart with hooking up computers and audio, but this has me beat. I am come on, why is there an option for how many people are in the room in the audio settings?

Anyways my old reciever is a Sony model. I like Sony based on the user friendly options. I would perfer a unit that is under 800 bucks which can take advantage off the new audio formats such as True HD etc.. I do have a Samsung 50' 720P Tv which I will be upgrading in the near future so that is why I want a decent reciever that will do Full "scaling" not pass through. Any ideas on where to lead me into the direction?
