I have another thread in the blu-ray section and i already posted this in there but i found this interesting and i thought this might help someone that has this reciever.
I just grabbed the 7002 two days ago.I wanted to find what kind of firmware i had. I went through some steps and found out i had VER 33. I called my dealer and asked him if he could find out what the latest firmware was.He called me back and said he talked to a Marantz representative and was told its up to VER 35. I found out that i can't download it off the Internet. I would have to unhook it and bring it down next week when the representative is in.He's going to take it and i should get it back in for a week. I haven't had the 7002 that long so i haven't had any problem But reading some threads on the 7002 i heard that some people are having poping noises from there speakers with dts ma and Dolby true. I don't know what VER 35 is going to fix but hear are the steps you have to go through to find the VER you have in your reciever. -open the front panal of the 7002 -Hold down the pure direct button, the 7.1 input button and the M-DIX button at the same time(for 2-4 seconds) -then press the enter button on the front panel,it will give you numbers -press again 2 to 3 more times and it will show you your ver Like i said mine is VER 33.My dealer said there is no VER 35, 7002 recievers out there so iam getting mine updated just because i have a chance to. I don't know if this will help anyone but i thought i would aleast post what ive learned ![]() Last edited by ozzman; 07-26-2008 at 03:03 PM. |

Thanks for your reply If i can help on person with what I've learned then I've done my job
![]() Let me know what he says(i would appreciate it) There's a good chance that your salesman will have to ship it to Marantz with no cost to you. If he says your have to pay for shipping then he's Playing with you. From reading threads on other forums,(and researching) From what i understand is Marantz picks up the shipping cost. Good luck ![]() Last edited by ozzman; 07-22-2008 at 03:39 PM. |

I mailed mine for service/update to United Radio in Syracuse,NY. I asked for the most recent firmware in my letter. Lets wait and see what they return to me in a few weeks. This process so far is cumbersome and poorly organized from the Marantz side. I will keep you posted as events warrant.

HD-ed,You know i had the 7002 for a week.I was getting poping through my speakers. When i started looking in to firmware.Marantz as far as i know is the only company that you can't download firmware.I posted this thread because Marantz really doesn't let you know when new firmware comes out.
I had a 7 day return policy on the 7002 and i brought it back and purchased a yammy 3800. It felt like it was a slap in the face ,i buy this new reciever(7002)and my dealer is telling me i had to send it away.I wasn't going to have it. Iam not saying the 7002 is a bad reciever but i have to tell you iam more happy with the yammy(personal preference ![]() Good luck my friend |

I have already called Marantz and told them that this is a poor way to treat their customers. If we must send the units in, then they must service and return them in a reasonable time frame. 2 months is not reasonable!! I am waiting on a call back from some supervisor that is supposedly looking into it...I tell you if it wasn't for the AWESOME sound quality I would not have considered the Marantz! I have owned a few in the past and I just have not been able to find a comparable sound that I like..although Harman Kardon comes close..hhmmm...anyway...thanks for letting me rant a bit.... |

No problem my friend .
A lot of people love the sound marantz puts out.Personally i like the yamaha 3800 better.(i was lucky to compare the two in my own setup,But that just shows me we all like what we like. There's nobody thats wrong when it comes to personal taste ![]() I hope you can kick some ass on the phone and get that reciever back where it belongs.2 months,Thats not even funny.Let me know what they say, iam interested Good luck |

Let's see - I dropped the receiver at UPS on the 2nd, United Radio received it on the 7th, I have shipping confirmation for delivery on the 20th. So it looks like two and a half weeks for my update of the 7002. I will report back on Thursday about the repair quality and Firmware revision that is now loaded. This receiver concludes my business with Marantz. This whole process has left me with a desire for dedicated separate components that have a half way decent company supporting them. I will not recommend or buy Marantz ever again and here is why:
1) I was not notified about this needed update, I had to observe the problem and wait on nice owners to post solutions on the web. ![]() 2) My local dealer, who I am close with, had no more info for me than "contact a service center". ![]() 3) Contacting Marantz led to me shelling out 50 hard earned dollars for shipping to Syracuse, NY. They never mentioned a call tag to save me the expense. What was wrong with shipping it to Atlanta which is 2 days away by ground? ![]() 4) United Radio in NY has shipped the receiver back to me via ground. I mean talk about dragging out the aggravation. ![]() 5) I can't think of a single good thing to say about any part of this process that Marantz must have been drunk when they designed it. ![]() |

This is what i suggest,
If you are thinking about buying this reciever before you take it home find out the firmware. If it's higher then Ver33,Then you should be OK. If it's lower, then tell the dealer the only way your going to purchase it is with new firmware in it.If you love Marantz,it will be worth it for you to wait a while to get the firmware. Who knows it might have new firmware in it already (But iam sorry to say It's not likely) |
