I have a question. I am thinking about adding a second subwoofer in my bedroom. Is it best to go with a identicle unit or can i got with a different size sub? I currently have a single 8" on the front, i want to add another sub at the back of the room. So i was thinkin should i go with a second 8" or should or can i go with a 10" or 12"?
EDIT* I don't have room for anything bigger then an 8" sub on the front of the room. My room used to be a garage, i made an mspaint drawing ![]() Last edited by Kryptron; 03-11-2009 at 09:59 PM. |

![]() Just hook the male end to the sub "output" on the receiver and your sub cables to the female ends. You're then ready to rock! |

While you might assume that using two subwoofers is for added SPL, the greatest benefit will actually be smoother bass response.
As a general rule, if you are using multiple subwoofers, it is best to use identical ones from the same manufacturer. Although using different subwoofers may work, equalization, level matching, and adjustments become much more difficult. There is plenty of information on the use of two subwoofers in the forum with sticky. Why don't you guys use the search function? A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes explains why two subwoofers are better than one. Post #2 explains why the two subwoofers must be identical. "Using two asymmetrically placed subs will minimize the effects of standing waves in your room, yielding smoother bass response as well as better dynamic range. If using two subwoofers, you must use the identical model of subwoofer. If two different models are used, even from the same manufacturer at some points they will help each other, at others they will fight each other causing a uneven response." Big Daddy, thanks for posting that. I read it a while back, i just remember seeing different members post about using different subs for back and front of a room. I'm going to try a second 8" first. Right now it has enought bass for me to feel it in my chest, but sometimes for movie explosions i want to be even more submerse by the low end. If that doesn't work i guess i'll have to make some room for a larger sub. Thank you all for your replys.

I know you said you are limited with room, however, the sub doesn't have to go in just one spot. And you can always move stuff around. Look at the eD A2-300 in my sig. I'm sure it would fare much better than having two subs that are 8".
