Default Click sound when a light switch is turned on/off

Hi,

I tried to search but without success. Every time somebody turns a light switch on/off, there is a sudden loud click sound that happens in my speakers. It really scares me and is annoying.

Does anybody know what this problem is called, what's causing it and how to solve it (beside not switching on/off the lights anymore) ?

Thanks.

You may have a ground problem, connection issue or they are sharing the same circuit.

I would definitely recommend a decent power conditioner. It sounds like a surge of power that our amp/receiver cant handle and outputs it through the speakers.

No, just a "Power Sentry" power surge from Wal-Mart.

Good line of thought.

Simple solution: stop turning lights on and off!
Definately veryify the integrity of your wiring - and if you can change the circuits that your a/v equipment is running off of.

And if you don't have a power conditioner....why not??

You'd be a lot better off in the long run if you can replace that with a line conditioner

The wiring from the AVR to the speakers are fine and properly matched between the terminals.

I was more referring to the wiring of your home. Such as having a good ground - nothing else on the circuit that could cause interference, such as electrical motors.

Monster, APC and Belkin are a few of the major manufacterers - and they all make a fine product.

Monster is, of course, a bit pricey but they do make a decent product for this. I pulled the trigger on a Monster - partly because I got it at 50% off!

What kind of equipment do you have?

I live in an apartment so I don't know how to check the home wiring. There are no electrical motors beside the A/C if it's an electrical motor. Would you please give example of what U referred as electrical motor.

You were right about what I was referring to. your a/c shouldn't be on the same circuit...but sometimes people have fans or things like that plugged into wall outlets.

Also, from your local hardware store / Home Depot / WalMart type store you can pick up a line tester. It's a simple device that you just plug into your wall outlet and it tells you if it is wired correctly. They shouldn't cost more than a few dollars.
