In the past week I have received at least 5 emails from amazon saying that they are still trying to source blu rays for me. These include mainly Paramount titles and most recently Cloverfield and There will be Blood.
Is there a problem producing the quantities required?? I cannot believe they are not pressing enough of these to meet demand. I have had both on pre-order the day they were announced. What’s going on? I hope this is discussed and not brushed under the carpet as a taboo subject. It needs to be discussed if there is a problem with production capacity. |

it has to do with amazon i believe. they are prob pressing enough, but it happens enough times where amazon orders a ton initially and then the preorders exceed the initial order so then they have to order more. of course, they are not at the back of the bus and it takes longer.
i have also been in the position where amazon screwed up internally and put me in a holding pattern indefinitely. |

The Blu-ray market is expanding pretty quickly (actually, it's growing faster than any other optical medium before it!) so it's almost impossible to accurately estimate demand.
I just saw a thing that said there was a 47% increase in sales over the course of two weeks near the end of May. Bursts like that (likely driven by hardware promotions like those we are seeing this week) can totally fubar any market forecasting retailers are doing on determining order quanities. Remember, Amazon probably ordered their initial quantity over a month ago. Obviously, with a market as new and growth orientated as BD right now, those figures used then are probably pretty irrelevant. We will never see production issues with BD. Current facilities can handle forecast demand for years from now already I'm sure. The demand simply can't grow fast enough to surpass line production increases without something MAJOR happening (like DVD being dropped by all studios tomorrow). There's nothing to worry about. |

First of all, it is a fact there are too few BD replication lines in existence. There are far more DVD and CD replication lines than BD at this point. Current plants are producing discs as fast as they can but they have a tremendous backlog of titles to produce. They're cranking out as many catalog films as possible and pushing projects like certain TV series box sets into 2009. I don't think new BD replication lines are getting into operation fast enough. That problem needs to be solved very soon. If current BD production lines are having problems delivering an adequate number of discs for a title like Cloverfield they'll have some really terrible problems filling demand when much bigger releases like Iron Man, Indy 4 and The Dark Knight arrive on Blu-ray. |

No, it's not a fact that there are too few lines in existance
It's simply there's an issue with Amazon. Everyone else got the discs in a timely manner. There are no forseeable capacity problems beyond what DVD would face during Christmas crunch, and there should be more than ample capacity for both BD50 and BD25 by the time Christmas product starts rolling off the line some time in July There's massive amounts of new capacity coming on line every month, and something like 3x what there was for last Christmas by summer's end. All of this is strictly FUD being spread by the now-former HD DVDers to try to suppress Blu for their downloads agenda Last edited by WickyWoo; 06-04-2008 at 08:41 PM. |

First off, this seems to be a Paramount title problem only (I'm waiting on Cloverfield myself), secondly, it also seems to be limited only to Amazon. I have yet to see a post from anyone citing any other source as being delayed. I'm with Wicky, this is not an issue to worry about. Annoyed about, yes...

since I had ordered this on first day of preorder amazon should have had the correct number ordered. While it is possible that they simply did not order sufficent numbers it is also possible they were not supplied sufficent numbers. Unfortunately amazon does not give any reason for the delay.

I with Wicky on this as well. I haven't really had any problems finding/getting the titles on Blu-ray discs that I want, and usually order from Amazon. Some titles are slower to ship, but I can live with that as long as the studios keep bringing the new releases. Bring on the re-mastered Godfather this fall!!
