Default Amazon Halloween starter pack

I'm interested in picking up this Amazon Halloween starter pack, which includes the movies:
  • Land of the Dead
  • Dawn of the Dead
  • The Thing
I know and like the movie 'The Thing', but the two 'of the dead' movies are a mystery to me. I've only seen the now old and classic 'Night of the Living Dead'. Are these some kind of sequels or in the same genre? Any info on how good (or bad) these movies are? I've never seen them so please be careful with spoilers

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You should check wikipedia for more detailed information, but basically Dawn Of The Dead is the 2004 remake of the original 'Dawn Of The Dead', which is the 2nd installment in Romero's "Living Dead" series. Not as good as the original, but still a lot better then I expected. It's more of a modern approach to zombie films, much different from "Night of the Living Dead". Has running zombies.

Land of the Dead is the 4th installment of Romero's "Living Dead" series, which is:

Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Diary of the Dead

Another decent Romero film, but doesn't really touch the original 3 in my opinion. It's gory, which is good, but doesn't have the certain charm and re-watchability as the first few in my opinion. So they're both decent watches, but I'd suggest you check out the original 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead' first.

$42 is a good deal, however. I may be preordering these shortly.

Wow, thanks for the good info! I didn't know the exact order of the movies as I only saw the original Night of the Living Dead.

I was thinking the same thing, 42 USD for these three movies, this is a pretty good deal, so I might be ordering.

Just one question regarding the Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead movies in this pack: how are the special effects? Do the zombies look realistic (as far as a zombie could look realistic) or do they resemble the original movies' zombies?

I think this is a nice pack for people looking for a good HD scare just wondering how the movies and the quality would be ...

The FX is excellent on both films--specially in Dawn Of The Dead (Remake), Romero's Land Of The Dead has its gory moments too.

I've never seen any of these or the rest of the "Living Dead" series, but I'm really curious about all these zombie movies. They look interesting. I kinda liked that "Army of Darkness" (is that considered a zombie movie? lol) and I like John Carpenter (Michael Myers is the shiz). Anyways, would I be disappointed with this set? The price seems pretty dang good.

I love Dawn of the Dead and The Thing. I'm just going to sell Land of the Dead here on the cheap because I really didn't like it all that much when I saw it.

Default ok...

....I'm going to be the nay sayer here. I love the Dawn remake and The Thing, but these Blu Ray releases have NO special features. NONE! I have the Special Edition of The Thing on SD(which has tons of features) and I would much rather have that upconverted than a lack luster Blu release. Plus you know they will double dip these....

Thumbs up

This is a bargain for these movies--

THE THING is an alltime classic, one of my favorite movies of all time. I plan
of keeping my dvd version for the extra features however.

DAWN OF THE DEAD, like THE THING is one of the best horror film remakes I've ever seen-- scary, intense, action packed, etc. It's only fault is a
nasty bit during the end credits!!

LAND OF THE DEAD-- not in the same league as above but still a good movie--and well worth owning IF you like horror films.

Can't wait for this release! Order it!

Yeah, but each movie is 20 on their own. I'd rather pay 40 for all 3, and then sell the other movie cheap here for like 10-11 dollars and I end up paying 30 for the two movies, instead of 40.
