Default Speaker suggestions please

Hi all,
I'm getting close to replacing all my speakers in the next couple of months. Everything I have is in my sig. What I want to so is get a new 5.1 set that will sound great but won't break the bank. I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 5-600 bucks. What does everyone suggest? Klipch, JBL etc. I also want to go fairly small with the speakers so I can possibly mount them on the walls.
Thanks in advance.

$500-600 for a complete set of new 5.1 speakers?

Hmm, this could be tough. Let's see what I can do for you.

A pair of Polk Audio Monitor 50s: ($150/ea from Amazon) (PS - these are floorstanders though, but small ones)

Polk Audio CS1 Center Channel: ($100 from Amazon)

a eD A2-300 Subwoofer: ($315 at their website with free ship: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407) (PS - also a fairly large sub, but the best in its price range!)

And use your current speakers as your rears/surrounds.

This are fairly larger than you might want though, but the sound quality would be nice. If you want to go for wall mounting, then try this handy set that this forum and I love to recommend:

Polk RM6750 5.1 ($250): http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Cha...1061474&sr=8-1

I think - there might be other offerings that I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll look into it...

Thanks, I'll check those out. I really want to retire my Bose 101's and 201's and use them for music only in the back room of my house. I may be able to spend a little more if I have to.

These are a nice set, the only thing is that you have to buy your Sub separate.
Excellent value for the money.

That's a nice set. How would that be with my Sony 12" powered sub? Also how does that set compare to this one? http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Cha...1061474&sr=8-1
Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

I went ahead and bought the Polk 5.1 system you and JJxiv1215
suggested. I appreciate the info. Read a lot of good reviews on it.

Well I got my speakers yesterday
http://www.frys.com/product/4185043?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Got them all setup and man are they sweet. I started going through some of my movies and I'm hearing stuff I never heard before. Also can hear dialogue much better now. I am very happy with these. The sub is pretty damn good too.
Thanks to everyone for all their suggestions and inputs. I appreciate it.

Fluance sells factory direct speakers that get good reviews. For example, you can get their top-of-the-line complete home theater speakers for $299.99 (the normal price is $499.99) or you can get their lower-priced package for $200 (the normal price is $300).

http://www.fluance.com/fluanceavhtb.html

Add a 10", 150 watt subwoofer for $200 (the normal price is $300) or a 12", 200 watt subwoofer for $250 (the normal price is $375).

Cnet gives the Fluance speakers thumbs up and calls them an exceptional value.

Don't need speakers now. The Polks I got were 199.00 for the 5.1 set and they rock. That was the best bang for my buck. They also don't take up a lot of space with them being on the tubular speaker stands. Perfect for my home theater.

Glad you went with our suggestions - it is the first thing I noticed, too, with HD audio - no more subtitles for me! I can finally hear clearly what they are saying on screen.

No, and you have to be careful not to just try some generic ones since they have that extended port on the back.

No, actually I matched them up with what was on Amazon for those particular speakers. They were perfect. They go up to 50" high, have a triangular bottom. very nice. They were 29.99 per pair. Not a bad price.
