Question Dolby TrueHD on stereo equipment?

Hi everybody,

I just bought my first BluRay player yesterday (Samsung BDP 1400), and I'm now trying to play the movie Almost Famous, which only has a Dolby TrueHD audio track.

The player is connected to the TV by component (video) and coax (audio), and the TV only has stereo. I hear sounds during the menu, but in the film itself I just hear sound effects and music - no talking. Seems like it's playing the wrong channel.

How can I fix this?
The player is configured for a two speaker setup, and the latest firmware is installed.

PS: Die Hard 2 plays fine, don't know its audio format though...

How is the audio hooked up and what do you select for audio option in the movie setup?

Like I said, the player is connected directly to the TV by coax (analog).
The only audio option available in the movie is Dolby TrueHD.

It sounds like you have connected to the right and left front jacks of the 5.1 analog outs. This will not work, move them to the 2 channel stereo outs.

I double-checked, and the cables are connected correctly.

Do you have one cable for audio going from the player or two? Coax is different than stereo RCA.

It's a cable with a red and white plug. I guess that's stereo RCA.

Sorry if I was confusing you, I never get those names right...

Die Hard 2 contains a DTS-HD MA track though I believe your player can only play the lossy DTS core. It sounds like you are hearing the wrong channels from the Almost Famous BD and you have the player or cables incorrectly setup. The player should automatically downmix the 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track on Almost Famous to stereo for output on your tv. Check your Samsung's audio options and also your audio cables to make sure they are correctly connected.

I know you said you're connected correctly, but just to be sure, using this picture, where are your audio cables plugged in? Fourth set of red/white from the left?
