ok. I just got an onkyo tx-sr606, polk RM6750 5.1 channel home theater speaker system, and i have them connected to the ps3. For some reason I can't get my surround speakers to work. when I did the auto cal, everything showed up right. All the speakers made sound when it was testing them, and it even automatically detected it was only 5.1. no errors came up. When i go to play audio through the ps3 though, it doesn't work. I did the automatic audio output settings through HDMI, and all it has listed is linear PCM 2 ch. 44.1 khz & 48 kHz. I even tried going in manually and selecting all the 5.1 ones, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

radio: try using direct or stereo. all speakers is using a listening mode.
yours shouldnt be too diff than my 705. automatic on my ps3 shows everything except aac, that has to be manually selected. are you sure your not selecting optical instead in the xmb? |

i meant any audio from the ps3 through the hdmi. you may need to assign the hdmi input on the 606 to a function button

I'm sorry. Maybe I'm just confused by what you're saying... Right now the ps3 is connected to the receiver by HDMI. Right now I'm playing music that's on my hard drive of the ps3. Audio is coming out of all the speakers except the two side speakers.
I'm not real sure how to assign the HDMI input to a function button.. again, I apologize because I am new to the whole audio thing. This is my first receiver and speakers, so I'm a little dumb when it comes to this stuff. |

your getting audio from the ps3 then you dont need to assign it. honestly i dont know why the auto set up for hdmi audio on the ps3 isnt showing everything. it should regardless of the listening mode your using.

if you were able to select everything up to and including 7.1 pcm audio, then check your receivers listening modes. on the remote, hit the direct or surround button. if your trying to get the rears to work with 2 ch stereo audio then there should be a all stereo mode

Music is recorded in 2 channel stereo. When the PS3 decodes it from your hard drive, you only get sound out of the fronts for this reason.
If you want access to DSP (and sound from all your speakers), its a bit of a pain. You have to deselect most of the sound options (5.1 and 7.1) and then switch to bitstream. This will allow the receiver to apply all the DSP settings. |
