Default Fed up with HD Channel offerings!

We spend all this money on our systems to get amazing PQ and AQ. We subscribe to the HD channels and dish out extra cash for specialy HD channels on top. But for me right now it's a waste of money!

I would say that 75% of the programs on any given HD channel (perhaps there is the odd exception) are in SD. And that really ticks me off!

When are these conglomerates going to give us what we paid for, instead of ripping us off!

Sorry, my rant for the day!

I agree, cable/satellite is a rip off.

I wish we could just go "a la carte" and just pay for the channels we want.

Yup, totally agree. Im moving in less than a month and yesterday i was shopping around. Unfortunatley in my area you only get the option of Comcast or Satellite, and in the end with HD channels and internet, they both end up coming to about the same cost = too much!

move to Canada

i currently choose just 30 channels that i want and i get the "regular" cable for free with it. If i have the SD channel and it's also available in HD it's a free upgrade. The only ones i have to pay are TSN / Sportsnet combo (2$) and Discovery channel (4$). I also have the movie network which comes with it's free HD channel as well. There's also the 20 channel package, sports package, etc etc.

That being said, we clearly don't have anywhere near as many HD channels as the USA which sucks

All I want in HD is ESPN and NFL NETWORK. The rest can die for all I care!

I have Dish Network and love my HD programming. There are a ton of channels and they all look fantastic. I watch a lot of them. Maybe I'm the exception but the quality is awesome with mine.

I also disagree on paying for HD channels that I'll never watch. The only channels I want on HD are the channels that show NFL Football games. (NBC, CBS, FOX, NFL Network, ESPN) The only channel I'm unable to watch HD NFL games is NBC. The quality really is thaaaaat bad on NBC.

I would quit my cable package if it wasn't for live sports. There is very little worth watching in general on regular cable.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with TMN in Canada for example, which gets some of the best HBO and Showcase HD shows, and I can't complain about their HD movie lineup either. Great bargin for less than the cost of the average Blu Ray.

It depends on what you are watching. If your watching re-runs of programs recorded three years ago at 630 pm, then yeah, there going to be in SD. But any current program on an HD channel is in HD. Standard networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX etc...) are broadcasting HD programing from 8pm until 11:30pm, and some all the way until 1:00 am in the case of the late night talk shows. Several (3 channels here in San Diego) are broadcasting local news in HD as well which means that my HD viewing starts at 5pm every night. I watch TV in HD from 5pm to 1am any day of the week, and that's just the local network stuff. If that's not entertaining enough, I have CNN, ESPN, ESPN2, FOX Sports, Discovery, History, HBO, TNT and 20 or so other HD channels that are broadcasting in HD 24 hours a day.

The only thing I could see being upset about is if you work at night when all the HD programmign is and are home during the day, which is when most programming is still SD. If that's the case, then I see why your upset, but even at that, set your DVR for the HD shows at night and watch them during the day.

Who knows, maybe where you live, your provider sucks, but me... 99% of what I watch is broadcast in HD.

Here's the real kicker... the only real choice in Chicago's south suburbs is comcast.. That is the only way to get Comcast Sports Net where the White Sox, Cubs, and Blackhawks play...
