i currently choose just 30 channels that i want and i get the "regular" cable for free with it. If i have the SD channel and it's also available in HD it's a free upgrade. The only ones i have to pay are TSN / Sportsnet combo (2$) and Discovery channel (4$). I also have the movie network which comes with it's free HD channel as well. There's also the 20 channel package, sports package, etc etc.

That being said, we clearly don't have anywhere near as many HD channels as the USA which sucks

All I want in HD is ESPN and NFL NETWORK. The rest can die for all I care!

I have Dish Network and love my HD programming. There are a ton of channels and they all look fantastic. I watch a lot of them. Maybe I'm the exception but the quality is awesome with mine.

I also disagree on paying for HD channels that I'll never watch. The only channels I want on HD are the channels that show NFL Football games. (NBC, CBS, FOX, NFL Network, ESPN) The only channel I'm unable to watch HD NFL games is NBC. The quality really is thaaaaat bad on NBC.

I would quit my cable package if it wasn't for live sports. There is very little worth watching in general on regular cable.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with TMN in Canada for example, which gets some of the best HBO and Showcase HD shows, and I can't complain about their HD movie lineup either. Great bargin for less than the cost of the average Blu Ray.
