Is it legal to convert dvd's you own (specifically Transformers) to ipod format using software?

Probably not if it requires decrypting the content. It would be legal if you own the copyright or if it falls under fair use law. However some DVDs & Blu-rays come with a digital copy that I'm guessing might be for the ipod

Even if it isn't legal, it's not like you'd be turning around and passing the ipod content to all of your friends and/or selling it to make a profit. So, even if the police do catch you with an "illegal" copy of DVD material, they wouldn't really do anything about it.
