Default Star Wars I II III on BD: Theories

Since Blu-Ray's victory in the format war, we have not heard anything about the release of Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace; Episode II: Attack of the Clones; and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith onto Blu-Ray.
Any reasons or conjecture why you all think these have not been released yet?
Here's the facts: If I remember correctly, Menace was not shot in HD, while Clones and Sith were shot in HD. Also, Mr. Lucas, believe it or not, is anti-DTS.
I'm afraid Lucas might be up to his old tricks with altering the above mentioned movies like he did with Eps IV, V, and VI. Would any of you be concerned about that? I'm just hoping we can get I, II and III on BD fully intact. And with Fox's support of DTS-HD Master Audio, I'm hoping that I, II and III will all have sport that magnificent codec.
Your thoughts on all this are welcome. Perhaps we can knock on Lucasfilm's doors loud enough to hear us like we recently did with WB's doors to get them to use BD-50s and Dolby TrueHD.

Menace was shot in high definition: It was shot on 35mm anamorphic which on the negative has more resolution than HDTV 1080 x 1920.

My guess is BD isn't mainstream enough and Mr. Lucas is wanting to maximize his profits (as usual). Perhaps in a few years. Look how long it took Star Wars to be released on DVD.

Last I had heard, Lucas took so long to release IV, V and VI was because he wanted to skip DVD and go straight to HD. When that didn't happen, he finally released them. You'd think he'd be jumping at the chance. Maybe he's just preparing to release the Alpha and Omega of all box sets.

In the UK Blu Ray's have after a 500% jump 1,2% marketshare on the DVD market. I guess it's around the same numbers worldwide. Why would he waste money in cleaning up his pictures for a format that hasn't really broken through to the public consiousness.

On the other hand he released the new versions of the Original Trilogy on Laserdisc which is comparable to BD Years before he released them on DVD.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well Celebration Japan (Star Wars Con) is going on now. Maybe someone will ask the question there.

Why bring these pieces of crap to Blu-ray? (1-3) better have a foreign unknown movies than those overhyped movies which lack a good story, good characters and good action scenes ... another digital effects fest like Matrix with no filming value.

My personal favorites will always be the originals. I'll buy them all on BD when they finally get released. Here are my thoughts on the subject:
  1. Lucas IS modifying the movies. He already said that he wanted to put a CG Yoda in Ep. 1. We probably also remember back in 2004 when we were worried that he was going to add Portman to a flashback scene in ROTJ - don't be surprised if stuff like that ends up in it.
  2. Lucas almost certainly has all kinds of analysts watching numbers and meeting in focus groups to figure out EXACTLY the perfect date to maximize the number of people who rush to the stores to purchase the Mega-Sextet. You can bet that it's a calculated effort.
  3. He also has something new planned that he hopes to launch and will use the release of these movies to help build hype for his new project - ala "Clone Wars".

Whatever the case may be, I imagine we're at least a couple of years away from these seeing the blu-light of day. Lucas is still drooling of the mega-success that Indy 4 has been.

A topic that is closer to us right now may, in fact, be the Indy trilogy. My thoughts are that we'll see these on Blu first. What do you think?

If lucas is looking to "revamp" them in his true vision like he did on ep 4-6, than I have a wish that I know will never happen. Edit Jar Jar Binks out of every scene. Then I can watch ep 1 without getting flat out annoyed!

We won't see or hear anything for that matter until 2010. I just hope he takes Ridley Scott's Blade Runner briefcase into perspective when he's thinking of editions to release. He really owes it to the fans to give us something grand. I'd expect ALL versions released. Of course not full screen ones lol. Keep in mind with Clone Wars out.....will that hit blu in the coming months?

We're still waiting for Indy trilogy news. If only someone knew him personally or saw him @ an event and straight out asked him " Mr. Lucas, when the hell is SW coming to Blu-ray"...then we'd know lol. Instead of all these rumors. Take into consideration how long it took for the trilogy to hit DVD...it might be a long time before we get anything.

If you're a fan, he made the movie..... that's what he "gave" you.... he doesn't "owe" you anything.

I never understood this kind of thinking....

To the OP, It's Lucas, it's gonna be awhile..... no need to speculate 3 years in advance.....

Are you talking about all the Star War movies or just 1-3? I think Lucas will release them when he is ready and who knows when that will be. Maybe late 2009 or probably sometime in 2010.

I don't like the 1,2,3 that much either. I'd still buy'em on Blu Ray.

I much rather have them release Part 4,5 and 6. Those were great movies.

I have heard that Lucas is indeed changing things for episode I at least. He's planning to digitally replace all
Darth Maul scenes with that of a sith Gungan.

First to call Episodes 1-3 crap is a little out there if you ask me. I thought they were all good and Episode 3 in my view rocks like hell!!!

Mr. Lucas is pulling a Speilberg in my book. What I mean by that is Speilberg for some reason is not releasing the Jurassic Park Trilogy on Blu Ray anytime soon and why? Its anyones guess. These 2 directors know we want Star Wars and and Jurrasic Park on Blu Ray and they are sitting back watching us beg and so fourth. Will we see Star Wars on Blu Ray sometime soon? No but maybe 5 years from now! I hope I am wrong. Oh and by the way EVERYONE may not want to see the Jurassic Park Trilogy on Blu Ray but I know I do.
