Thumbs up Which one has better Special Effect (Star Wars: Episode III or Star Trek)?

I know star wars episode III is 4 years old compare to Star Trek, but i think star wars still seems to has better GCI than Star Trek, your opinion?

Mmmm, I'm a Star Wars fan first, but I think I'd give the edge to Star Trek in terms of visual effects. SWIII's F/X seemed to be a bit more on the animated side, whereas I thought Trek's had a larger sense of realism. Ok, in other words, I just thought Trek's looked more realistic and less CGi-ish.

Star Trek hands down.

I was blown away what ILM was able to do with Trek. It looked awesome, as a previous member stated, more realism in the visual effects. The Sky Jump sequence is one of the best scenes I have seen in terms of CG, my jaw dropped

Plus the movie was totally wicked

Ep. III by no means looks bad, it has aged a touch but it still holds up but it just can't compare to Trek's truly remarkable CGI.

I agree I hated the visual effects in SW : Ep III ...They felt like cartoon. Star Trek looked so real and huge. Space actually looked haunting and massive. The black hole effects were astonishing.

Oh and congrats on making it to the top contributors list , I wanted to let you know earlier but it kinda got out of my mind...I did leave a comment on that page however, its on page 2

Star Trek, definitely. While I absolutely love Revenge of the Sith, I could never quite shake the feeling that I was watching a movie done entirely (you wanna split hairs here?) in a blue room and then changed later.

Star Trek, to me, was perfect in terms of special effects.

Star Trek by a mile. Star Wars was a testing ground which is why it has that CGI, cartoonist effect. Wait another 4 or 5 years and we will all be saying the same thing about ST.

Many people on the forums know I'm a huge Star Wars fan, But Star Trek is visually fantastic, It is a sight to behold and whoops ROTS in almost every aspect!

Then again ROTS is almost four years old and there have been significant advances in rendering and data storage for the film industry since then.

Wouldn't have expected any less than perfection from ILM though. The godfather of the VFX world

Please don't make me choose. Star Trek looks amazing!, but when EpIII arrives on BD, I know that the first space battle is going to be my demo scene. It's not just that everything looks as real as something like that could but you're following Obi and Ani in such an artistic fashion. Idk, maybe I'm making too big a deal out of it. But again on ST's plus-side, I thought it was quite conscious of them to blank out any sound when
[Show spoiler]there was a hole blown in the Kelvin and the camera follows a woman from inside the ship to out in space where there is no sound.
That was awesome!

When we get Episode 3 on BD I think we shall see. I have yet to see a movie that offer's a scene like the opening shots of ROTS. The space battle at the start of the movie is insane when you check just how many details and effects are included on that. It's already quite a scene just on a up-converted DVD, I think when we see this on BD we will probably all go I know I will.

I concur with that statement P@t.

I've been known to watch the "Waterfall" shot with Ani and Obi flying over the attack ship and into battle on a loop on several occasions!

Pains me to say it but Star Trek wins this one I think. I think ILM has an Oscar coming their way due to the effects they pulled off in Star Trek. Everything seemes so seamless in it and no CGI really stuck out.

I'm hoping that the Transformers 2 team will win out for that award.

I know, It's not out yet, but looking at the trailer they seem to have upped the ante...

Even if the VFX are only slightly better than the first one, I feel they were robbed by The Golden Compass last time round, and they deserve the recognition!
