OK, check out this quote from Gizmodo:
"I'm going to let you guys in on a secret that I snuck out of the Sony marketing playbook. Shh, don't tell anybody, OK? Here it is: people are stupid, and if you lie to their faces they will believe it. If you're in the middle of a disaster, tell people your company has never been better. If the biggest product launch in your company's history is tanking, tell people it's selling like hotcakes. If you say it enough times, it'll become the truth! You don't have to look far for an example of this type of Dubyaesque behavior in action. Here, let me lay a nice quote down on you, courtesy of Jack Tretton, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, shouting some horseshit: "April or May is when we feel like we're going to catch up to demand and have product fully in stock across North America and stay there." Wait a second, are you trying to claim that there are shortages of PS3s out there? That somewhere in this vast country there is a kid who really wants to drop $600 on a PS3, if only he could find one? What fantasy world are you living in, Sony?" -- Gotta love the digs at blu-ray. Oh well, I guess that's what we've all come to expect. |

Sorry -- here's the rest of it:
"So, if you've shipped 4 million units but only sold 2 million, how is it possible the PS3 is hard to find? Is EBGames hoarding a million units for a massive St. Patrick's Day sale we don't know about? This is like when you claimed victory in the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD debate. Guess what, Sony? Blu-ray is sinking like a chubby mafia snitch and it's bringing your precious PS3 down with it. No one is buying them because they're insanely overpriced and there are no blockbuster games for it. To claim that there's a shortage is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who has even a passing knowledge of the state of current consoles. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, when we can expect Sony to come out with a statement claiming that the PS3 cures diabetes and should be covered under Medicare. You're losing, Sony. Man up, admit it, and make things right for you and gamers everywhere." |

Its great how these self-righteous retards dont realize that they themselves are peons in M$FT's "Viral Marketing". It took my friends 4 days to track down a PS3 in my area (Buffalo/Rochester Go SABRES) last week. While not a drought, theres no deluge. |

Also depends largely on your market area too. Some places have too many, some don't. And well, folks know about MS's nice ... weighted gifts to various tech blogs. |

The only two million figure i know of refers to North America only at this stage... with more in Japan and a lot about to be released in Europe (where it is setting preorder records) and Australia (where they have all but abandoned HD-DUD). Sony, as have stated all along, are on track for 6 million by the end of March. So, with official data to back this up (and at the same token showing that M$ had to DOWNGRADE their sales projections on the 360), and official sales figures from all the reputable sources showing blu-ray is outstripping hd-dud by a wide margin in software sales and is at least even in stand alone player sales... where is he getting his info... and just how far up his own a** does he have to stick his head to get it? M$ fanbois are getting nervous - they've lost the HD format war and the last thing they hold dear, games, is being threatend - as witnessed by the upcoming ps3 games getting some rave reviews already... I guess in a way it's good that Gizmodo hires the mentally challenged -- keeps them off the street and keeps them busy.

The last battlefield is about to open up, and the desperation being shown is obvious and clear.
Simple question: Why do these article writers care so damn much?! They don't want well-to-do gamers sucked into a format that only 2.5 million other people have bought into in only three months, and is now starting to get the hot games? They don't want HD movie watchers to be suckered into buying into the format that has all but one major studio, has a flood of major titles coming out, and that has a 2:1 and growing sales advantage? This nonsense is absolutely incredible, especially considering Xbox 360 and HD DVD have NOTHING left to counter with. Microsoft had to cut back projections from 4.5 million to 1.5 million units. And HD DVD has stalled. All they have left is negative campaigning. Gary |

And why even that? A well balanced critic can see all sides of the argument but has know when the facts are against him and throw in the towel. These comments are desperate and pathetic - but the bigger question is why? Negative campaigning either comes from something more personal or you have something else invested - and I'm not making accusations here, well not much - but I wouldn't be surprised if M$ fingerprints were over this as they have been known to dole out bribes - either in cash or hardware to certain bloggers, writers and websites. And when you have accepted said bribe, and you have agreed to sell out and promote that other inferior format, you have to go down with the ship... and when the facts aren't on your side what's left? Lie.
Any other reasonable person wouldn't have distorted the facts - because you have nothing to lose, what do you care? There has to be something else to writers who come up with articles like this that defend hd-dud so blindly. Much like Universal - in the face of overwhelming evidence they still push hd-dud as the superior format and deny bd's success... because of some kind of support from M$... I'll take my conspiracy cap off now. |

But, when it makes no sense, and it seems so prevalent and consistent (and sometimes even coordinated), it's very hard not to think that Microsoft is paying for much of this nonsense. Gary |
