I have it narrowed down to the Pioneer KURO 50" Plasma or the 52" Samsung 850 LCD. They both have great picture quality so I am just trying to get some opinions on any one who owns one or the other or who knows alot more than me to try and narrow it down. Let me know your thoughts people.

We have one high up narrow window that spills in some good light and we have a plasma in the bedroom and I flooded it with light today to see what would happen but it was not coming from as high up and I saw no reflections at all. I know the 850 hsa that high gloss covering on the screen so it can get reflections just like a plasma, just not as bad as the LCD is so bright it helps cut down on them. I also know the KURO has an anti reflective deal on it as well to help cut this down but you never get a real good sense at BB on these effects.

It depends basically.
1. For best possible PQ, Pioneer is the way to go. 2. Are you interested at all in the way 120hz sets look? If so, go with Samsung. 3. Plasmas seem to require slightly more maintenance--for the first 100 hours or so, you need to 'break in' your set so you need not game excessively during this period. Burn in is not as prevalent as it once was with plasmas, but there is still a possibility of image retention. 4. More realistic color palette--Pioneer. 5. More vivid colors that offer more 'pop,' but not as realistic--go with the Sammy. Both are excellent tvs. I have the Samsung 750 lcd, and I love it. If you want the best bang for your buck and the absolute best PQ, go with Pioneer if you can afford it, but make sure you're careful in breaking in your set just in case, and only transport it vertically. I chose the Samsung 750 because it was more affordable, also had excellent PQ (the Sammy 6-9 series are the LCD sets closest to plasma's dark blacks) and I didn't want to worry about in breaking in period. Some people will try to tell you that IR/Burn-in are nonissues with plasmas, but it's not necessarily true. These issues have MUCH improved over the years, but you still need to be careful the first 100 hours of viewing however. Regardless though, the Kuro seems to be the most favored tv for tech geeks, including the major critics. Hope this helps. |

A week ago i would of said what are you guys talking about? LCD's are fine to( and they are) but after seeing the dark knight prologue on a 60" KURO ELITE at best buy, i have to agree also. i mean wow talk about superb blacks and on point colors. the PQ was just beautiful.
in the future i hope to have a LCD and a pioneer plasma living happily together

I seem to be getting the scolding for the compariosn...lol. All good that is why I posted this, to figure out which road to go. Ok then with the Pioneer, you say a break in period, for that first 100 hours what should I do and not do??? The gaming part really sucks and I have a sister in law who is here all day watching my little one and leaves the TV on all day about, I am guessing that is a bad thing.

Easily the Pioneer Kuro.
During the break-in period, basically don't leave images up on the screen that will remain static for long periods of time (hours), such as menus on video games. Also, you might want to use the "stretch" mode on your tv so that every channel completely fills the screen, so it burns in evenly. At least that's what I've heard. |

You can't beat the KURO.
For breaking it in, it's the simplest thing in the world. Download the break-in DVD for free, play it at 16:9 output for 5 days, biggety bam! http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloa...nload_main.htm No adding up 100 hours, no worries. 50" KURO settings: Break-in DVD ONLY Quote:

I followed your lead. When you annouced you were getting one, I went from brown skin to green with envy. Not to be outdone, I went out and got one last Saturday, my skin turned back to brown, and all was happy until I realized that Gremal had speakers I liked as well. Well it's back to green again
