Default Samsung LCD 9 SERIES vs KURO 5020

What is the better TV.... The Samsung 46LNA950 or The Pio KURO 5020. I've been going back & forth on this one. I can't decide... Your input would be greatly appreciate.

It depends on what you're gonna use it for. Most people will recommend the Kuro because its superior to most tvs: Deeper blacks, faster frames/second, etc. Be patient and let the members of these forums assist you.

sorry got to say the Kuro! it is the holy grail of tv's! far superior to anything else out there at the moment. Highest quality color reproduction and the inkiest blacks you could imagine! The Kuro line is the way to go!

You will also be able to get a great deal on the kuro right now. Pioneer will not be making the kuro line of plasma's anymore due to financial constraints but they are still the best tv's on the market!

Not only is the Kuro the better TV, but at $1,859 it's over $500 cheaper than the 46" 950 and half the cost of the 55" 950.

Well considering most people will tell you the Kuro has the best picture on the market and the 5020FD is one step below the Elites, I would say it easily has the Samsung 9s there (I have a Kuro and love it BTW, haven't seen the 9s in motion though). The PDP-5020FD is also about $2000 cheaper than the 52" Samsung ln55a950 last time I checked so I would say the Kuro by a mile.

EDIT: Heh, doby beat me to it.

Just a quick question, but may I ask where and what this TV will be used for? Overall, the Kuro line is the best, but the 950 is getting closer, especially with it's black levels. Aside from the price point comparison, sometimes if you are going to watch the TV in a highly lit area or if you are gamer, the 950 may serve as a better option. But make no mistake, straight up, the Kuro is tough to beat......

I'll be using the TV for basic television viewing... 24, Hereo's, Amer Idol, & Sports. I'm a big sports fan. Go Cavs!! Football & Basketball mainly. I have Dish Network as a Cable provider. I also have a PS3. I play video games but now often. Maybe once a month. I sometimes use the PS3 as a blu ray player, but not often. I mainly use it to watch basic television....

My living rooom is 17 x 12, I have 2 pretty big size windows. I also have blinds to keep the natural light out.

I currently have a 32 inch Westinghouse LCD, I bought about 3 years ago. Anything I get I'm guessing will be a huge upgrade.

If you can keep the room dark enough, no question in my mind, get the Kuro 5020. I love my Pioneer Elite version, the PRO-111FD.

From your reply, it sounds like plasma would be your best fit. I am an LCD man myself, but I know a great picture when I see one, and the Kuro line is the best going....not to mention how cheap you can probably pick one up right now with Pioneer stopping production of their plasmas. Good luck and enjoy, the improvement from your Westinghouse will be mind altering...

Man I sure hope Dan gets a new stand, that thing could be dangerous. Thats a very expensive and big tv to put on a $20 super small stand.

I saw the Pro-151 and the 950 both calibrated at Ken Cranes here in California, and I tell you, if there wasn't a sign above both of them I don't think I would have know which was which. I was flat out in awe of what was on these 2 TV's, both were playing blu's one with Fantastic Four 2 and the other Spiderman 3, and I am telling you, it appeared that LCD caught plasma while I was standing there. I don't think there is a bad choice here. You lucky MFer.

If they make a 60' or bigger your looking at a price of about 8 grand.

I have never seen a better picture then the Samsung 950. I have seen the Kuros, and they are awesome, but I like the 950 the best. I also like the AMP dejudder technology with the Samsung. The Kuro has Smooth, but it doesn't work right. I love the look of movies with Amp on low. Makes them look so smooth(some don't like it). Videos like Planet Earth look fantastic with AMP on.

I don't like plasma technology that much. They use more power, kick off heat, have fans to worry about, Burn-in is an issue(even if it is fixable), Heavier, SD programs look crappy etc..

If you want to save money, the 52a650 is an AWESOME bang for the buck!! Picture is REAL REAL close to the 950 and its half the price. Best TV on the market if you ask me.

I've seen both tv's in action. I think the Kuro has better overall picture for blu-ray...but the 950 series isn't far off. If your a gamer I would go with the lcd. I also 2nd the recommendation for the 650 series if your looking to save a buck. Either way...all are excellent tvs and i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose.
