Default I'm not that dumb, but....

I'm slowly figuring this audio stuff out, but I do still need some help.

I have a Sony STR-K750p 5.1 reciever.

I have the speakers hooked up, and the ps3 settings to optical. but i'm still getting no sound. I have no clue what setting the reciever needs to be on.

Any help? Thanks in advanced.

Do you have the input set correctly on the receiver? Depending on the receiver, you may have to assign inputs. That would be done through the receiver's menu.

That's what I'm not sure about. What input does it need to be? I don't have the manual to it.

I have had 3 sony receivers over the past years and your setting should be set to Digital on the input used for the optical cable. What input is your optical going into? On the Reciever based on what input you are using the optical cable on make sure that the input is set to digital and not analog, sometimes Auto is an available option. PS3 should be setup to bitmap for the optical cable.

Look on the back of the receiver and see what input your optical cable is plugged into and then change the input to that setting. They should be labeled (DVD, CD, Video 1 etc.).

There's only one optical output from the reciever, and it's hooked straight up to the optical in the ps3. i got the sound working, and on the reciever it says pcm 48. which i'm not sure what that is.

PCM is pulse code modulation. Chances are your audio settings are set to LPCM for BD/DVD audio output. You can leave it as is and let the PS3 decode your audio, or change it to bitstream and let the receiver do it. I'd probably let the receiver do it, but that's just my personal opinion.

This is straight from the eSupport page from Sony:

When a CD, SACD, or DVD player is connected to the stereo receiver using a digital connection, the receiver may display PCM with a number next to it (example: PCM 48 ). This indicates the sampling rate of the disc being played and is normal operation.

Do you have a DVD or CD in the PS3?

Here is the link to access the manual for your Receiver:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...l?mdl=STRK750P

Enjoy!
