I've got some SS-F5000s and I love them - great for the price - I'm assuming with the price range that you're probabley looking at the 7000s... I also have the SS-CN5000 but it has spring clips in the back, not terminals that accept bannana plugs.

...and as far as the "sony speakers suck" comment, if you're on a budget (who isn't these days?), then they are excellent speakers... opinion is subjective, so take a listen to them and decide for yourself.

sony SS-F7000
Yamaha NS-BP4500
Yamaha NS-bo4500
but if you want a good speaker you must spend more money on it.

You can get much better deals with Fluance speakers. They are highly rated factory direct speakers at unbelievably low prices.

Not trying to bust your chops, but as someone who’s also looking for a good speaker at a reasonable price, I though I read in another post that Fluance was not well thought of.

I respectfully would like to disagree. I created a home theater recently with all sony speakers and receiver and it sounds incredible. I bought most of the speakers online, but I bought the receiver at Circuit City.

It costs me around 700 and I couldn't be happier.

Go with Polk, friend, the Monitor series like others have suggested. You get great performance to go along with aesthetics.

polks seem to be the fan fav on bluray.com for your budget, i've never heard of a bad review for them, so i'd have to agree with others.

i've also learned the hard way, its better to save to get exactly what you want v.s. spending less just to have it faster. Overall, if you buy speakers you are unhappy with, you will find a way to upgrade in a short period of time.
