Default Does Warner hate BR??

Hello all, I am new to the forum, and pretty new to Blu Ray...

I bought a PS3 a few weeks ago, and have been lovin the BR PQ and Uncompressed audio ever since...

However, I have noticed that it seems that WB doesn't really like Blu Ray too much. I bought Superman and was depressed to notice that there was NO enhanced audio track. I also bought Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and was also depressed to find that there was no enhanced audio track. After listening to Casino Royale's uncompressed PCM track, its almost painful to listen to standard DD tracks...

This has me especially nervous since the new WB movie 300 was pretty sweet and I really want to be excited for the BR release (whenever that may be), but will we get screwed with a standard DD track??

It just sucks that WB gives HD-DVD TrueHD tracks, and BR gets nothing...

Is there a reason for this, or is WB just being crappy?

The Departed featured LPCM and I would not be surprised to see it on more upcoming WB discs.

Like any company, Warner is reluctant to spend time and money when its bean-counters can't be guaranteed a return on the investment. Warner has never been known for quality DVDs (there are exceptions of course), so I'm not surprised most of their BDs fail to take full advantage of the format. That said, I am really pleased with Unforgiven and a couple other Warner BDs.

Obviously Warner doesn't have as much stake or resources in BD as Sony, an won't show off the format as well.

It should also be said that there is more to good audio quality than AC3 vs uncompressed PCM. Depending on the attention to detail in remastering the audio, you could conceivably have movie audio in AC3 that sounds better than the higher quality formats that BD supports.

Maybe in the start they did, but know it seems like their titles are getting better than some earlier releases, like stated a few post above the departed was done very well.

There was no excuse for Superman. But, I think before Superman, Warner may have not really realized the demand for BD and what BD supporters wanted. Their dropping TrueHD, I believe, had more to do with an incompatibility with HD DVD than deliberately holding back on the format. As was already said, it's about what's the most economical for them. Even with the support of PCM now, Warner's BDs are still being handicapped by what they can do on HD DVD, including bitrates and any filtering they may be doing to make them easier to compress. They're planning their discs for the weaker format. Though, on that note, I think the success of BD is also encouraging them to handicap their support of HD DVD, by not doing as many advanced interactive extras as they could, that they can't do on BD yet. And possibly scaling back release to support BD at the same time.

As for KKBB, I don't believe the HD DVD supports TrueHD. Both the BD and HD releases support 640kbps DD/DD+, which is still superior to the 448kbps DD limit on DVD. BD and HD DVD have just implemented DD+ differently. Basically, you can get the full bitrate supported by DD on BD, but on HD they had to go to DD+ to get 640kbps. I don't think Sony intended lossy to be a dominant audio selection on BD. Apparently, that's not the case with HD DVD, considering the formats very infrequent support of lossless audio.

I think what you meant to say is the Dolby bitrate on the Blu-ray is the same as the Dolby Digital Plus rate on the HD DVD. The Dolby TrueHD is a much higher bitrate & has a much fuller sound.

Trust me there's a big difference between the Dolby Ditigal Plus track & the Dolby TrueHD track in sound.

I think that's what KingDeezie was talking about. They are doing the same thing with "Happy Feet" Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on the HD DVD only.
