Playstation 3 for movies ONLY?

Does anyone here uses the PS 3 to watch movies only?

I ask this question because a friend of mine lent me his PS3, but warned me: try not to use it with movies, they say it's not good for the PS3.

I found this a little strange, because a game, by definition, is more demanding, and so I guess the PS3 has to work more with a game than with a movie.

I have a few games for mine I mainly use mine for movies. I haven't hear this but maybe someone else has.

I have a PS3 and I mainly use it only for Bluray. Its fast reliable, and awesome. Ive even geen a little too quick with it as far as responce time, ITS SOLID. You will find a lot of people on here only use their PS3 for movies and thats it. Most of them have had their players for a couple years and no problems. I personally don't think your buddy knows what he's talkin about.

I have 3 ps3 games and 70 blu rays, so you can see how much i use it for movies. It still is the best player out there for your money. Heck even Magnolia Home Theater, and other pro's are using PS3's in there professional setups for TV testing and home theater testing

I have had mine for 1 1/2 years. I use it for games, movies surfing the web. I am not sure where your friend got his info, but he is wrong

I use my PS3 90% of the time for movies. The only time I used it for games was for MGS4.

+1 MGS4 is the only game i own. My PS3 is almost soley dedicated to movies

It may have started with the ps2. With the ps2 it seemed like the more you used it to play dvds the more they would break. I for one use my ps3 for both and I've had mine for 2 years or so and have never had a problem. So tell your friend he's misinformed.

mainly for movies, but most recently i've been playing the resistance 2 beta.
i'm at 50+ blu-rays and 6 games (with lbp / r2 on the way). haven't had a single problem with my system, which is 1.5 years old.

I think you get the point of what were ALL trying to tell you. Now is a great time to buy a PS3. Lots of good bundles are available and I expect more to come as we near the shopping season.

I agree 90% movies 10% games, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour, Just got a real Incredible Hulk today, was one of those who got the 2003 movie in my new case. Going to watch a movie on my PS3
