Default Should Sony Award Trophies for F@H?

This would probably cause participation to go up if they did, but at the same time this takes trophy whor3dom to a whole new level.

Thought maybe a system where you get a bronze trophie for every 100 units you do or something and a silver for every 1000.

I don't like this idea, all you are doing is rewarding somebody for hitting Start and going to sleep.

And paing their power bills. Look at it like a tax deduction for donations.

You have to earn trophies by completing challenges and stuff like that. I don't see how F@H deserves a trophy.

if i may play devil's advocate.

1. Completing "X" ammount of units could be considered a challenge.

2. There are other trophies out there that take little to no skill to do either.

3. This could really help boost participation and help find a cure for certain diseases. It really isn't any skin of anybody's back, so why not do something that would help mankind.

I agree with that, but not a whole game dedicated to doing nothing. Also F@H isn't a game but an application that you run when you aren't using your PS3.

Personally, I like the idea of awarding trophies for Folding at Home. I hardly do it myself, but the cause is worthy. Anything that encourages participation in the program is worthwhile.

but thats why you don't get a full list of trophies.

just one every month or so, if you religiously fold.

Interesting idea. I suppose they could do this, but would it be retro active? Plus, if people do it only for the trophies, once they get the last one, will they keep doing it?

Yes, because it would get more people helping out to find cures for diseases.

Even "cheating" (running the PC app on the side) would be cool, since it would still lead to more work units being done.

I'm all for the F@H trophies. Set it up to award bronze and silver trophies for work units completed (as was already suggested), gold trophies for each disease cured as a result of folding information, and then the platinum trophy could go out once every possible protein folding simulation has been completed (this one could take a while).

there is no end to it, Sony simply says something like 1 bronze trophy for every 100 WU. 1 Silver for every 1000. 1 Gold for every 2500.

I dont' think platnium should be rewarded as PSN games don't get platniums.

This isn't the best way to pick up trophies, but its a little incentive, if you ran your PS3 for 16 hours a day on F@H it would take nearly 3.5 years to get that gold at a rate of 1 WU/8 hrs.

Maybe a platinum could be awarded for running F@H for a certain number of hours straight.

Maybe they can award trophies for buying the PS3 to begin with. Oh yeah, and breathing. People should get trophies for breathing.
