Default my new Sony BDP-S550

Just got my BDP-S550. Went to Circuit City this evening and picked it up. Didn't have a lot of time to fully set it up. Only getting video signal right now no audio. I have an older TV with the Sony connected via HDMI to DVI input. I assume the TV's DVI doesn't carry the audio signal and I'll have to run separate cables to get audio thru the tv speakers??
I still have to run speaker wires under the carpet to hook up my surround sound. I have an old Onkyo HT-S520 6.1 receiver. I will probably end up updating that sooner than later too.
I put Transformers in and just watched the so see the picture quality. It IS better than standard DVD but I was not blown away by the blu-ray experience. My wife is gonna hate when I want to get rid of the old Hitachi projection 1080i dinosaur (4 years) and go with a shiny new plasma or lcd.
I'm not a diehard audio/videophile but I do want a much better picture than I am currently getting from this TV.

Are you going to run analogs out for your 6.1 from the 550 to your receiver? if so can you answer the question everyone wants to know.... does it indeed decode DTS-MA and process via analog? I am of the mindset having read the manual already that it does, but there is still some uncertanty from other people. Thanks.

Yes, Yes, Yes........The "other people" probably don't have the settings correct.
Once you have the settings right , the player WILL decode DTS HD MA into your 7.1 analog multichannel inputs. I and others here have posted our settings.
Search and you will find .

To the OP- where do you live? my circuit city still doesn't have any S550's in store yet only on their website, infact I went to my local Reading,PA CC and had them special order me one,but they couldn't give me a solid arrival date ,I know,I know,"why didn't you just order it from Sony's website" my wife works odd hours and I don't always know what time she will be home(I don't want her to find out about the new BD player or there will be a Non-stop *****fest on me,I don't need the UPS guy pulling up in front of my house and ringing the door bell )

i just got this for my dad and he hooked it up to his sony lcd via HDMI. I must say, i'm quite impressed with the PQ of this player. He has a really good receiver but it's not new and doesn't have HDMI so we hooked it up via analogs. It does decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio. Everything worked perfectly for this player. For $399 it's an excellent player and highly recommended. It's pretty fast too. Not quite as fast as the PS3 but blows away other stand alones.

I've had my BDP-S550 for about three weeks now and I love it! The picture quality is stellar and I think it might be a little better than my PS3. Audio quality is amazing! I love bitstreaming to my onkyo 606! No problems with bitstreaming at all whatsoever! It upconverts DVD stellarly. Much better than the PS3 for sure! I noticed much less artifacts than with the PS3. It doesn't load as fast as the PS3 but, it's pretty fast on its own terms. Especially with newer movies like Indy Jones and Iron Man. They load really fast. I honestly think this is probably the best stand-alone out there for the price. I don't know about the Panasonic BD-55 but I'm sure they're about similar. Also, I got the S550 for an even sweeter deal through the $150 offer with Sony Style. I ended up getting the 550 for about $270 w/tax! Awesome!

Congratulation

I hope when my dealer get it here in my Country will not cost me a fortune.

The BDP-S300 will cost me now if i want to buy it about $500 ,But because the prices of new players are much inexpensive than the second generation i think i will end up buying this new player around $700.I'm just Waiting it hopefully much less once it is available.Upon releasing it in the market i'm over it .

Thanks! Where do you live? I couldn't imagine paying $700 for the S550 or for any blu-ray player! . I hope you get it at a good price. Too bad imports cost so much in other countries...

Lebanon or you can just say Middle east region.Always i have to calculate it in this manner if you can get PS3 for $400 bucks in US here in my country i can get it for $600.So for BDP-S550 if it cost around $400 in US probably here in my country i will get it for $600 but not always this is true.

Yesterday i was shopping in the market and to my surprise i found AN LCD Bravia KLV-40W400A(Made in Japan) plus a free PS3 for $2100

Whereas when i bought my setup cost me around $3500
