Default Wal*Mart pushing upgrade to Blu-ray

I was on Rotten Tomatoes and Walmart has a big add promoting the upgrade to Blu. It contains a Sharp TV and a Magnavox Blu-ray player and The Incredible Hulk as a "Reason to upgrade".

Cool.

Cool.
If all the Walmarts are doing this it will certainly increase sales of all blu ray equipment, as well as disc's.

I definitely think sales will go up for Blu-ray, it may just take longer than expected due to the economy. It's good to see a store like Walmart pushing for Blu-ray. I guess people expect the turnover from DVD to Blu-ray to happen overnight . Hopefully my Walmart will start to carry movie titles and have competitive pricing.

I hate Walmart. They are an evil company, but this is good for Blu!

With blu-ray players dropping in price and rental stores carrying more and more blu-ray discs for rent it's just a matter of time for the change over to happen. I live in a small city and both our rental stores are embracing blu-ray. This is the same thing that happened when dvd started to take over.

Walmart in my area has certainly not been a place to see Blu... they have a tiny selection and didn't even get Matrix on Blu Ray. Their prices have been consistantly higher than Best Buy as well. At the moment there is no point in going to Walmart for Blu.. at least around here.

they could show some real support by displaying the new release blu-ray's on their endcaps instead of back mixed in w/the rest of the movies. i went to buy the hulk on tuesday and it wasn't out in the front of the HT dept, no blu-ray titles were. they only put the standard version out on the endcaps.

Two weeks ago now, Walmart started comping new release prices for Blu with other retailers, at least brick and mortar stores. Sleeping Beauty was comp'd to $25.97 (from $29.96) and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was comp'd to $26.97 (from $29.96) during their respective release weeks at my store.

I do, however, have to agree with the selection. Often catalog titles don't make it on release day like other retailers, namely because Walmart knows most people waiting around for those titles have already pre-ordered them elsewhere.

It will be a while, if ever, when you see the in-store prices regularly beating Amazon. However, if you look to Walmart.com you will notice they've been matching or even beating Amazon's prices on most Blu's for some time now.
