Blu-ray Ninja

I don't think it is the same with Pixar titles, but they might change their policy on that (or I might be wrong).
It used to be that Disney would never release their titles to home video, since they thought it would sit on shelves for years and lose its value and importance to people. Even back in the 80's, Disney would have limited theatrical runs of old Disney movies, like Snow White. So Eisner though up of the vault system. This way, they put out their movies for a year or so, and the rest they buy up or let go away naturally. Even now it is hard to find titles like Lion King on DVD. This helps make the film more valuable and a collectors item. It also get people interested in the movie again when it is re-released. Marketing-wise, this is a brilliant move. But for us, it just means if we don't pounce on their titles when they are out, we will miss out on it. As for Sleeping Beauty et al, I think that these Blu-rays are indeed on the vault system. Since BD is still young and has not yet achieved a wide acceptance (as in most people don't use BD yet), there is a chance they will let these sit out a little longer, but not much. I think the reason here is that they don't want the value to be lost. Alas, people who don't have Blu-ray will not be able to get these titles in 5 years when they do, but they might be happy when it comes out of the vault again. I must say though, the Sleeping Beauty release is so high quality, I would be surprised if any further release from here on out added anything or improved anything. It is perfect as it is, and I don't think anything can move it better. PS: This is my 5000th POST! Blu-ray King! ![]() |

With each home video format, I wonder if I should buy duplicates of the Disney animated films. With each home video format I decide against it. And with each home video format I see extraordinary after-market prices on the titles after they've gone OOP.
