Go to Settings in the X Cross Media Bar, then System Update. If you have internet on your PS3, then select "Update By Internet", if you dont have internet on it, go here from your computer http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/updates and download the software to a flash drive, then go back to system update and select "Update Via Storage Media" after inserting the flash drive. Hope this helps!

ok buddy, You get what it's called a USB memory stick or some other recordable media. I have a memory stick that's 4GB but any size that's bigger than the download you want to save is good enough. (You can get those on CompUSA etc or borrow one!) You go to a computer that has a usb port (if you don't have high speed internet connection you can go to a library or a friends house that does if you want the dl to be speedy) and connect the stick, you create the folders as Sony tells you (in CAPS, and the order they are saved inside each other, etc) you download the file from the Sony website to your computer, make sure it has the file name as per Sony's instructions and save it in the proper folders, which are saved on the memory stick. Then you unplug the stick from the computer and plug it on the usb port of the PS3 and then do the System Update from the crossbar following the instructions on the Sony site plus the onscreen instructions the PS3 gives you.

make sure you download the update for your region/country machine
(and that you have uninterrupted power during the update)

A flash drive would be something like this.

Or like this:

If you've not used any of these and don't know how to put ANY FILES on them, get somebody else to do it for you.

I am familer with the USB ports (as I have an iPod). I do have high speed internet at home and a computer with several USB ports. So now I need a Playstation 3 Memory Stick and that should get the job done....Correct? You guys have been a great deal of help and I sincerely greatly appreciate it. Sorry for my ignorance, please you must forgive me. I'm sure you will see me on many other post as I'm in the process of buying all this new technology my next project is a surround sound system!!!

If you set your PS3 up with your high speed internet connection, you do not need a memory stick. Refer back to AaronDavies reply to your first post and download it via internet from your PS3. The memory stick is only needed if you want to download the update to your PC, save it to the USB memory stick, and then update your PS3 from that.

Then you need to go the USB route. Download the update on your PC. Save to the flash drive. Plug the drive in the PS3 and update via the flash drive.
