Default PS3 Firmware Updates

can anyone tell me who has recently purchased the 60gb model, which software version came with it? is it 1.82?

The reason I am asking is that I want to have the latest software when I purchase my ps3 now, and as I only have dial up internet service and to download the updated firmware would probably take forever and I havent heard back from sony if they can send out a firmware update disc like they do with the stand alone players.

Thanks in advance

I really doubt they'll send out a disc. They are great about constantly upgrading functionality and fixing issues via firmware updates, but the entire cost model would be blown if they are constantly sending discs to everyone.

Umm, instead of spending $500 on a PS3, why don't you get yourself out of the 80's and spend your money on broadband?

LOL it all depends on where one lives. Some people only have access to dial-up in certain areas!

Even on dial-up the file is not that big that you couldn't download it, transfer it to a USB thumb drive and update that way. I belive the files are only 20MB or so and on 56k that would really only 20-30 minutes.

Plus you only have to download the latest FW you don't have to step to each FW version.

Again, you apparantley did not read my other post in the other thread on this same topic.

No need to wait for a consloe for a firmware update, any game you buy or rent will have the latest firmware on it, and will auto-install if you have an older version on the PS3.

That is the easy way to get a "disc" with latest firmware.

Only up to the point of when the disc was made.

The easiest way is to get a friend with broadband to download it to usb storage.

I just bought one yesterday at Best Buy.

I believe it has firmware 1.52 or 1.55 on it.

I haven't updated it yet.

That's a good suggestion. Another one would be to try to find a public library where you could get high speed internet access. Or, maybe before you go to bed, log on and start downloading the update to your computer.

I also update this way. My USB drive is only a 512MB and I only use a tiny fraction of that. You can update easily using a dial-up connection.

If you have a thumbrive or cd-r ask the store to do it for you. If they know you will buy the PS3 they may be willing to download the patch for you.

If you have a Display that can accept a 1080p/24fps signal turn it on, otherwise leave it off or your BD's may not play you will just get a black screen.

What is your Internet access? Do you have a broadband router? Wifi or wired?

All you have to worry about is getting the PS3 connected online and selecting the System Update icon under Settings. The latest firmware will automatically be downloaded then applied.

first set up up your internet connection settings
then go to system update
then download (1.82)

if you're using dialup... wow... like WOW... you guys still exist?

The 60GB models were made a while ago. I doubt any of them will have the current firmware on them.
