Default PS3/DVD/SACD Question

I have a Sony DVP-S9000ES which was a really nice DVD / SACD player back 2001 or so (Progressive Scan).
Some Specs I found: http://www.audaud.com/audaud/MAR01/E...uip1MAR01.html

I just bought a PS3 two weeks ago and my question is do you think the S9000 would still be superior for playing SACD's and standard DVD's or should I just be using the PS3 for everything?

Thanks!

The PS3 is prolly not the best for this, but mine works very well. You will need to use HDMI for SACD, optical will not work. ANd make sure you have a PS3 that supports SACD.
I think your stand alone will prolly still be better but the PS3 with HDMI can give you SACDs in surround sound.

I was a little disappointed that PS3 stopped providing SACD playback by the time I bought mine. I was hoping it could be my new SACD player since my old one died.
I doubt I seek out another one.

That is too bad. SACD is a format that is under-rated, and under-appreciated.
It is excellent in quality and amazing with surround sound.
I love the fact that my PS3 plays them, but since they stopped supporting it, it looks like it is going to die out for sure now (SACD that is). I just hope that BD-audio kicks in soon with some good titles. They need to get things like Dark Side of the Moon on 7.1 Blu-ray BD-audio.

Try this for an inexpensive player.

Your old player is definitely better for pure SACD sound quality. Sony's standalone SACD players were no joke when it came to SACD playback. I would imagine dvd playback is slightly better on the PS3 but you should probably test this for yourself.
