To start off thanks to anyone who provides any help, suggestions and input. I have started to assemble my home theatre, and it is all coming together down to my last part. My receiver, I decided to get this last, just because if there is any issues with it I can return it in my 30 days or wtv. I obviously couldn't get my whole system put together in a few days, these things take time, so I have been working on this for some time, and am quite anxious to get things done with, but obviously don't want to make a dumb mistake. So thats why I ask the great people at Blu-ray.com their advice on my setup.
My speakers Fronts - Polk Rti A7 x2 Centre - Polk Csi A6 Surrounds - Polk Rti A1 x2 Rear Surrounds - Polk Rti A1 x2 Subwoofer - SVS PB12-NSD And that's it, I run a PS3 as my blu ray player and just an HD cable box as my only other piece of equipment. Will be adding a power conditioner after my receiver is settled and things like Harmony remote ![]() But the big question, I thought I had settled on last years Denon 989, it had what I wanted, 7.1 all the main things dts, dolby true hd. But since this is my first home theatre I wasn't sure if further down the road I would want to add an amp into my setup, this Denon has pre outs, so it wouldn't limit me in that respect. But the new Denon 2310cl (Canadian model possibly) has the pro logic IIz, which although nothing spectacular now, seems could be good down the road, when people learn to work with it. My main concern was the pre outs though, this Denon is rated 105 watts a channel, with no pre outs, this kind of concerns me, although my speakers are nothing crazy, just wanted to ask some experienced people advice. Should I limit myseld to no pre outs, or should i get the older model with pre outs, and 5 more watts a channel and no pro logic IIz, or just look around some more. I apologize for the insane run on sentences, and giant walloftext, but I didn't know where else to come. Thanks again if anyone responds, I'll check in when I'm home from work. |

I don't think I could, I think the denon uses the 2 rear surround channels for the pro logic IIz extra front channels, if someone is only running a 5.1 setup with. I however have the speakers to run a 7.1 setup, but I am pretty sure I wouldn't be able to hook up the 2 extra speakers in the long run without an amp, so I think I need to keep looking, and do some more research on this years models coming out. The Denon 989 still looking like a sexy choice even without the pro logic IIz. I guess I could be worse off, picking a sexy receiver isn't exactly the worst issue I could be having, hehe, thanks for the advice, I hadn't even clued in how they would power those additional speakers, but obviously even with the 2310 cl I wouldn't be able to go pro logic IIz, with 7.1, without pre outs.

thats a pretty good question. I have a similar setup of this to my home theater. Im not using the preouts of the main receiver to my second receiver as it being used as an amp. Im using the HDMI in/output from the bluray player and the HD sat box to the main receiver and then running opticals/coxials to the second receiver. The second receiver is being used to pump the bass shakers and the 2nd cornered subwfr. So basically its all digital all the way around. In your case it all depends what exactly youre trying to setup here. Another pair of front speakers you stated? Thats sound a little overrated but thats just my opinion. If I was you Id keep the Denon you already have.

I would only look at receivers with pre-outs. You have some great speakers and they deserve some additional power down the road. I have not been following the new Dolby setting, but to be honest, I only use Direct, Pure Direct, or Stereo on my Denon 3808ci.
I say stick with your original gut instinct and go with the "older" 989. |

Thanks for the help, I think your right about the 989 it looks great, and I can snag it for around 800$ CAD at the moment. Pretty good price in Canada. Thanks everyone for their input, and hopefully I'll have some pics of my setup come the end of August, start of September when I set it up.
