Default Blu-ray Movie Format?

What format are Blu-ray movies in? If there are multiple formats, please let me know the highest quality format. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Jason

Blu-Ray.

There's the single layer disc (25GB) and the dual layer disc (50GB)

If you're referring to the codecs, then that would be AVC. At least, it is in my opinion.

VC-1, it's either a hit or miss. MPEG-2 is still a great codec even to this day.

99% of the BLU-RAY movies are in 1080P/24 HDTV format. 1080P is the highest quality HDTV format.

I mean format like the movie extension... Like a couple of examples would be wmv and avi.

Sincerely,
Jason

Like Banjo briefly mentioned, there is 3 formats that BLU-RAY and HD-DVD movies can be encoded in. MPEG-2, MPEG-4/AVC, and VC-1. Most new movies are using MPEG-4/AVC on 50GB BLU-RAY discs.

I think the video format of blu-ray is MovieObject.bdmv, and sound.bdmv for the audios, at least this is what it looks like from my PS3, hope this helps
