Default Sony SA-FT7ED

HI All,

Thanks to you wonderful guys at blu-ray.com i have just bought the Sony STR-DG820 Receiver, before blu-ray.com i didn't even know what a receiver was lol! however i need to get a decent speaker system, the set up i have now is the Sony Dav-is 10 surround sound, good and all as it may be, it has passive subwoofer and i don't fancy splitting the cables to connect to receiver so i am looking for a speaker system only so i can connect to the receiver, now this is what i see on the Sony website, in fact its the only one i see advertised on the Sony website

http://www.sony.ie/product/hcs-home-...eaker/sa-ft7ed

My question is, is this a GOOD speaker system, will it do the job ? I think they are priced around £1,300.

The only concern i have is it is only available in Silver when the rest of my set up is in black ( i can get over this )

Or can you guys recommend another speaker system preferably with an active 250>> watt subwoofer, i will be looking for floor standing speakers.

Thanks again guys, and i love blu-ray.com such a great resource for information and good at forcing money from my pocket lol!

Do you have any hi-fi stores near you? Your best bet would be to go to one and audition speakers for yourself. Next to the reciever these are you second biggest purchase for a home theater. Try taking some demo material with you, and listen to different setups to determine what fits your budget and sound requirements.

Well there is a Sony Centre in town, this is where i got the Receiver, even though it had to be shipped over from England, the guys that work in their are great, they gave me a good discount on the receiver and said they would do the same for whatever speaker system i choose, they do not have any showcase speakers on display so i wouldn't be able to "test" what sounds good and what doesn't, but i do have my eyes on the sa-ft7ed, just wondering do any of you guys have this system and what you think of it

Never heard that system before, but are you only limited to Sony speakers?

I know what speaker system you are refering to, although I haven't myself heard that one, I am usually not happy with many setups like that.... I actually considered it myself before I bought my speakers.

You could do what I have done, especially if you are happy with Sony products, I have the floorstanding ones listed below the F5000, with the CN5000 center and the B1000 surrounds, I also have the W3000 sub 200 watt (which is active) all and all it is a very nice system I have never had any issues with them at all and you could get them very inexpensively and prolly get better sound..... PLUS, they are black, and like you.... it matched the rest of my stuff perfectly. Costed me about $375 to put this speaker system together (everything was bought on black friday). I know that sony speakers aren't the most popular, but they have been great and I really like them. Most people on this site with sony speakers will tell you they are much better then anyone will give them credit for.

I think I recommended that receiver to you?? Congrats, I hope you enjoy.

Yes, it was you who recommended the receiver, thank you for that lol! and thanks in advance, i checked
out that system you have, all in all these are very fair priced speakers/sub. I will call up my Sony Center tomorrow and order the lot in! im sure they will give me discount otherwise i would order online, The only slight concern i have is i may choose another subwoofer, maybe go for a 300 watt>> sub, but other than that that is a pretty decent system. Thank you so much!

Ohh and one thing, could you put up a photo of your set up, im interested to see what it looks like ?

Thanks.

No Prob, I like the sub, it is actually very powerful, but if you want more power, go for it.... I bought mine for $99, a great price, I couldn't turn it down, and it has served me well...
