Default Can Blu-ray stimulate the economy?

With Christmas coming soon and the analog cutoff in Feb. 2009, could an intense campaign to promote BD cause an economic recovery?

If the U.S. government would have done the right thing in the first place, that is buy $700 billion dollars worth of BD (players, PS3s, and discs), rather than buyout a bunch of irresponsible buttheads (lenders and loaners), then and only then, would the economy be on the up side.

i dont think that the entire CE industry, video game industry, and movie industry together could restimulate the current economy...too many idiots bought houses they couldnt afford

People might buy some blu players and movies, but it will not be enough to help the economy in any major way.

Our current financial problems result largely from a "crisis of confidence" in the banking and lending systems. Blu-ray has no impact on this situation at all.

LOL at this thread. The stock market sucks, the housing market completely bottomed out, jobs are at an 8 year high. And you think a few movies is going to save all that. Just wow.

I friend of mine just lost one of her baby-sitting jobs to the sinking economy. She is kind of bummed out over the loss of the job and income. To brighten things up, she just went out yesterday or the day before and picked up a 42" LCD to make her feel better. Looks like people will spend if they find something that gets them away from the stress of life, even if the stress was a result of financial problems.

If Blu provides an escape, which it does, it should do well during the down-turn, just as radio did in the 30s. A $25 fix is fine by me. Sadly though, a magic bullet, it is not.
