Default pcm v bitstream on non HD system

Theres been alot of talk about which people prefer who dont have HD sound .I was watching a scene on predator 2 this morning where theres alot of bullets whizzing past. When i went to bitstream the bullets were whizzing through the rears but in pcm there was nothing as its just 2.0 being matrixed so ive decided id rather have proper surround sound than just have it louder in the fronts.

are you sending bitstream over optical? I think optical is limited to PCM 2.0 whereas over HDMI you would get 5.1 PCM..

yes using optical, you're right it can only carry 2 channels of HD sound and then people have been using pro logic II to matrix it into the rears but you dont seem to get the proper rear effects not surprising really.

yeah id imagine you;d be much better off bitstreaming the dolby digital or dts tracks.. probably depends on what your receiver would do with the pcm 2.0 some might do a better job than others with matrixing it.. i know on my receiver i cant apply any dsp effects when its accepting a pcm feed over hdmi..

Are you able to use HDMI? If you can, it shouldnt make a difference Bitstreamed or LPCM
