Default PS3 & Sharp Aquos question

I have a Sharp 27" Aquos LC32DA5U (it can do 720p or 1080i) that I hooked my PS3 to via HDMI.

Whenever I pop in a game, the screen goes black briefly (I'd say less than 3 seconds) and then a slight 'popping' noise is heard, and the game begins to load as it normally would.

Should I be concerned about the popping noise?

In general the popping noise is somewhat common when dealing with receivers and changing inputs. However in your case I would suggest setting the PS3 to output only at 720p then load a game. After that try having it output only at 1080i and see if that makes a difference. If not then contact Sharp and find out what they say. I do not want to give you bad advice, but in my experience with popping noises they are more of an annoyance then a problem. Still it is best to get some type of official word if you can not resolve it.

Mine doesn't turn black and no popping noise.

my set up is the same, the screen goes blank, even when loading movies, but no popping noise is present when loading blu-ray dvd or games.
I was told by Sharp that the blank screen was normal for a few seconds, not sure of the popping noise though.

Dude, that blank thing happens to me when playing games or Blu-rays and I have the 32" Vizio so I wouldnt worry because it has not gave me a problem since I got my PS3 in November.

Well, if it happens every single time with the game always working properly, then that suggests that it's normal, in this case.

You should be more concerned if the game doesn't run properly, or if the popping happens randomly or with only certain games.

But really, you should'nt sweat it. It's just a TV that you'll eventually have to replace with an OLED (probably) at some point anyways.

I've been treating my first generation Plasma so well that it probably has only 1000 hours on it after two years. Now, with the fuss about OLED, even before I've even gotten the chance to break in the Plasma, I'm already beginning to feel the urge to replace it...Just indulge a little and relax.

I have this problem with my ps3 and i have a Hitachi Plasma, with the ps3 going through a Yamaha Rx-v463 reciever via HDMI. i get the popping noise only when starting or stopping a movie. right when it goes to the "black" screen. i sent the ps3 to Sony and they sent me a new one and it does it too. But what is wierd id never did it till about a few weeks ago. Is this "ok" i mean it only does it when i start or stop a movie or game. but once it starts it is fine. looks good and sounds awsome. Any advice would be appreciated

When I had my PS3 and would put in a movie, I'd get a popping noise every time as well. So I tried to isolate it, and I found that it would pop when it was changing audio codecs. It would go from Dolby PL II to Dolby Digital, there would be a pop. It would go from Dolby Digital to TruHD or DTS-HD, there would be a pop. So what I did to fix it, was change the audio settings on the PS3. Since I only have a 5.1 system, I deleted all the 7.1 output settings, and that seemed to fix it.

My recommendation is to change the audio output settings to match your current setup. If you're running 5.1, delete all the 7.1 settings. If you're running it just to your TV, delete all the 5.1 and 7.1 settings.

I will try that and see if that works but what is weird is that it started all of a sudden after like 6 months.

I guess im gonna be the guy to bring you the good news..... you have a 32".... not a 27"..... and last time i checked the quality tv manufacturers like sharp dont offer a 27 (they do 26)

I have a 40" samsung, 60gb ps3, my setup has done the same thing since day one. Two of my friends also have 40" samsungs with 60gb ps3's (apparently its a popular combo) and they do the same thing. Its nothing to worry about

on a side note, for better picture quality, go with the 720p
