Default Confused about BBY Price Match

I don't get what these people's deals are. I'd really like an employee here or somebody who knows for certain what Best Buy's price matching policies are to explain things from me, because nobody in these stores gives me a consistant response or guideline what their policies are in regards to price matching.

Here are different explanations Ive gotten:

- Amazon: We don't match prices from Amazon. Amazon is an online retailer which due to their lack of overhead creates a different style of service and product that we don't match with or consider to be a B&M competitor.

- Amazon: We can match Amazon.

- Walmart.com - We don't match walmart.com, its online, we need an instore price. Only online ads we match is our own.

- Walmart.com - We match walmart.com, but the item is not instock at walmart.com, so i can't match this until its in stock.

- Walmart.com - We match walmart.com, but we have to add S&H into the final price.

- Walmart.com - We match walmart.com, here is your price match (instock or not).

- Walmart (instore) - We match their instore price with proof of an ad. Whip out ad, hold on sir, i need to call over to make sure its in stock. Sorry, sir they are sold out at the walmart, we won't price match this.

- Walmart (instore) - We will match this. Doesn't check if its in stock.

- Circuit City - Circuit City has filed for bankruptcy protection, this is a clearence price, we don't match clearance prices.

- Circuit City - Here is your price match, have a good one.

- We won't match X store, because they are not in X mile radius of this location. (Reasonable distance to drive for a better price)

It just seems like they always try to come up with some excuse why they won't price match or have to jack up the price a little. Makes me not want to do business with them. Seems dishonest.

and i usually always end up talking with a manager over their policies and making a little bit of a scene and holding up the line, which doesn't seem worth doing over a couple bucks on a blu and makes me look bad.

I'm an employee and to be quite honest with you....YOU JUST HAVE CRAPPY LUCK LOL!!!

Technically Speaking,

The responses you get are all by the book....
  • Don't match online retailers
  • Don't match clearance items or outlet items from competitors
  • will match local competitors (the whole bankruptcy thing, is because you talked to some smart ass who was having a bad day)
  • Technically must be in stock

Usually thats the POLICIES, but anyone who's been working there espicially for as long as i have, its a part time, for me now, It all depends on who u deal with at customer service. DID YOU KNOW, that best buy is also supposed to give you 10% of the difference with the PRICE MATCH??? DO UR RESEARCH THAT IS TRUE..

So technically boss,

what ur going thru is what policies say, but when you deal with an anal person, trust me, price matches in my store, have been done alot with amazon, tigerdirect, etc, trust me, u just gotta meet the right person to do it for you....if you piss em off...trust me...i've done it...THEY WILL THROW THE WHOLE POLICY AT YOU...I got price matches, with target.com, amazon.com, buy.com,

so TRUST ME, ITS HOW YOU APPROACH THEM

Thta's why I never bother to try and price match there. I usually just go where to the cheapest place near me with the item in stock.

I (unfortunately) worked for BB. The reason you get inconsistent results is that there is little to no training involved for new hires. So the end result is no one really knows WTF they are doing (yes, this includes Managers). I was asked to pick up a register (loyalty one) with no prior reg training. Most of our Geek Squad staff had no prior experience in computer repair. I've also seen different approaches to customers based on their looks, gender, kindness ect. as stated in the post above me.

If you want to experience the real BB. There is a wonderful site that is devoted to employee/customer comments. PM me.

i think in know what site u're refer'ing to, if it's the same, that's only one side of the story. there are some funny stories on there though.

i also worked for best buy for 6 years. each store seems to have a different approch to price matching.

when i worked there, online sites would only be matched if they had an actual store in that area that you could walk into and get the same price (ie: Circuit City, Wal-Mart).

the item had to be instock, i never checked for that when i worked there.

they used to give 10% of the difference as well when they price matched.

my advice, go in, find the most clueless cashier u can, and just say that their competitor has the same item for $X, they can match it right on the computers now. i used to have to fill out a form and have it signed off on.

i don't worry about any of this personally, my sister is the merchandising manager @ my local best buy.

I haven't had issues at BB for price matching. The best is the target.com stuff cause they use Amazon's blu prices!

I price matched movies during their $10 off coupon days a few weeks ago and so I was getting $10 off of the target.com (amazon's) prices.

Sounds like crappy luck. But on another note, I would love to read about this website.

OMG. They removed the BB website I was talking about earlier. It's now a link to the actual BB website. Guess they don't want the consumers to know what really goes on there. Sorry guys!
