So, I was bored today, and I made a top ten list of my favorite games. I am a younger gamer (22) so I don't have some older classics on here, and I wasn't a serious gamer till a few years ago, so I missed some series originals that others will probably have on their list. But I figured it would be cool to share mine, and see what other people have. Here's my list, and the systems I played them on:
1. Super Smash Brothers Nintendo 64 There isn't a game to this day that I played more of with friends. I was/am obsessed with this game, and Nintendo has not made another quite like the original 2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Nintendo 64 Many consider this the best game of all time, I rank it #2 but just barely. 3. Halo XBOX I know there are a lot of Halo haters out there, but there was nothing like having 4 XBOX's hooked up and having Halo parties with my friends. Plus this was the first online game I played for consoles. 4. Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Here's a game where had I played earlier games in the series, I would probably have one of those up instead. But this game was one of the only games that IMO completely lived up to the hype. It was an amazing story, and the only reason it's not higher is cause I didn't like MGO that much. 5. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Nintendo Wii If there's a game to get on the Wii, it's this one. Great use of the Wii-mote and nunchuck, and a very satisfying departure from the cartoony graphics of Windwaker. It played like a Zelda game, and delivered like a Zelda game. 6. Little Big Planet PS3 There is no other game like this one. I have never laughed so hard while playing a game. Maybe in 5 years this game is higher up on my list, but it speaks volumes that I am ranking it #6 after playing it for only 3 weeks. 7. COD4 PS3 I will forever compare FPS games to this one. Great but short story, and the online gameplay was nearly perfect. I have over 250 hours on this game counting online play. 8. Bioshock PC Best story to a game I played. Great game play. Only reason why its this low is because no online play and short story makes it a quick game. But what a game it is. 9. Fallout 3 PS3 From the moment I put this game in I was obsessed. It was able to tear me away from LBP. I couldn't put it down. Much better than Oblivion IMO, and I loving using the VATS system. I predict a lot of hours on this game, and have already played about 30. 10. Burnout Paradise PS3 I loved the openness of the city. Online play was great. 60 hours of playing and all of them fun. Honorable Mention: Ace Combat 4 PS2 My favorite game from the PS2; made me a fan of the series. Almost bought a 360 just to play Ace Combat 6. |

1. Tetris (NES) The game that started it all for me. I still to this day play it on my xbox (nes emulator)
2. Half life 2 (PC) This is technically a tie for first . Can't say enough good things about it. The only game I can keep playing over and over and not get tired of. 3. Shadow of the colossus. (PS2) The game that pushed the ps2 to it's limits in scale and beauty. The game was so simple yet incredibly addicting. 4. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) Not since Half life 2 have I seen a game as complete as half life 2. Story , graphics, audio , everything top notch. The story was so good , it made me want to play the other games in the series which I didn't do prior to playing this 5. Ocarina of Time (N64) Amazing game. I remember this was the reason I had purchased my N64. 6. Half life (PC) Just an amazing game and story. The longetivity and the difficulty of the game is what stood out from most games. Not too mention how amazing it was at the time and how it pioneered gaming in general. 7. Jedi Knight (PC) The game that started it all for me on multiplayer. Incredibly addicting and incredibly fun online. Till this day I pray for the same game just revamped with todays graphics and physics. 8. Uncharted: Drake's fortune (PS3) My first ps3 game that I purchased. The only game I have played multiple times on ps3 (5 x) The graphics, story , characters, everything was there and used well. Really felt like an action movie the whole way thru. 9. LittleBigPlanet (PS3) Like playing my favorite mario video game , but everyday I'm able to play different levels created by my peers or make my own. 10. Max Payne (PC) Loved the game , and the bullet time. It was used to well and I was really attached to the main character which is not a common thing in video games these days. 1. Gabriel Knight : Sins of the Fathers
Never have I been more engrossed by a games story. 2. Powerstone 2 This is the most fun I have ever had with friends. 3. Counterstrike 1.5 Pre-Steam era The last version of CS that I played endlessly and even though there were cheaters, it was still madly addictive. 4. Super Street Puzzle Fighter II I can beat anyone with Dan. ANYONE. 5. Camcom Vs. SNK 2 My personal fav. out of all the fighters released. Possibly the deepest of them with the different fighting styles. 6. Sam & Max Hit The Road I've never laughed as hard as I have while playing this game. 7. Wii Sports The one game that is keeping me from selling my Wii. No matter what, if people come over you can have fun with this. 8. Parappa the Rapper Kick punch it's all in the mind! 9. Grand Turismo Redefined the racing genre for the console market. 10. Shadow of the Collosus I think this is gaming in it's purest form. |

Very nice. I didn't know where to put counterstrike, but it should be somewhere in my list. Played it for over 6 years . Started in the betas all the way thru 1.6. Stopped when they released the riot shields and than started playing again when Source came out.

I never really took the time to think about a full top ten, but off the top of my head, in no particular order, the top five would be:
Tetris --- 20 years later, and I still play it (although I currently play a free fake version on my Mac) Super Mario Bros 3 --- this is the first (and remains one of the only) games that I really looked forward to being released, just thinking of the yellow box with the Raccoon Mario makes me want to be 6 again Ken Griffey Presents: Major League Baseball --- I probably put more hours into this thing than any other game in history...I think it's the only baseball game where I've played all 162 games of a season, and I did that countless times. Plenty of baseball games have been more realistic, but none have been as fun...I still play it today, on a modded PSP Final Fantasy VII --- the first RPG I played, and will always be my standard that the rest are compared to Rock Band --- provided the instruments hold up (or they keep selling new ones), I can imagine playing this game forever. Even though this may not be the honorable thing to do, I suggest everyone buy a PSP, mod it, and put an NES and SNES emulator on it. (But only use ROMs of games you own, of course! ![]() Last edited by toef; 11-13-2008 at 08:19 PM. |
