Default New receiver or new speakers

Hello

I am thinking of starting to upgrade my audio system you can see what I have in my sig. I don't know what to get first a new receiver or new front speakers.

The new receiver I will get is the Onker 806. And for the speakers I was thinking the Polk Rti 12 paried with a Polk CSI 5.

I think i need to get the receiver first as I am getting sick of having just 2 HDMI inputs.

I was wondering if these speakers are good enough, Ive read a couple of reviews but I trust the people in this forum more.

Any recommendations are very welcome and thanks in advance.

I'd say with the speakers you already have you should get the amp. Those speakers are still quite good speakers, so give them more power and then upgrade to better speakers.

+1......

In your case, because you already have decent speakers, I'd upgrade the receiver first as well. Then start looking at speakers. Since you're looking to buy again, why not consider other brands as well? Go and audition a few, you might come across some that you like even better.

How much would you be looking to spend on a new receiver?

I don't think I can spend more than 800 on the new receiver. How about the speakers that I'm thinking about, heard anything about them.

Speakers....

You can spend $2,000 on better speakers, and it'll give you more improvement than spending $20,000 on separates......

I'd say new receiver, then sub. Speakers I would leave for now.

well I also wan't the new speakers so that I can have a 7.1 setup. But yes also gonna get a sub. I can't get one thats too powerful cuz I live in a condo and my living room is directly above my neighbors master bedroom.

Why can't you again? You can and you should get a good "powerful" sub. Then you know if you're in a bad mood or want to show off or just want to piss off the neighbors, simply adjust the volume knob on your sub or receiver.

Speakers. Most people on this board seem to spend too much on receivers in comparison to their speakers. With your set, your receiver is good enough for now. I'd spend on a sub and/or new fronts before upgrading the receiver.

Just my opinion.

i was in the same position you were in.
in the end i ended up buying a good pair of speaker first,
which i came to love dearly; my klipsch RF-82'S.
then slow, but sure, i ended up purchasing the receiver second, which was my onkyo 805.

Are the speakers I am thinking about, Polk Rti12 and Csi5, good enough that I can notice a difference. Would you guys consider it a reasonable upgrade?

More than reasonable upgrade. Not to mention your current speakers still hold good resale value.

Well the only thing I will be sellling will be the receiver and the CS2, but I will keep the 60's and use them as surrounds.

Still, you get a good return on both.

I LOVE your front soundstage. You should go for the receiver.

Your speakers are good bro and they are already nice and broken in by now.

I ordered the Onkyo 876, didn't want to lose the Burr Browns but also needed the extra HDMI, also wanted the audyssey dynamic volume.

I also ordered the Polk rti12 and the csi5

Hope I love it.

Thanks everyone for their opinions and help.

Just curious if there was any reason you didn't listen to this stuff before ordering it or at least audition other brands/receivers to know what can be bought for X amount? I would think that if you're gonna throw down a lot of money on an audio system upgrade you'd at least want to hear it and not "Hope I love it." But for your sake, I hope you love it too, because I would think it would be a hassle to ship that stuff back if you don't. Enjoy!
