Default Polar Express 3D ghosting is unacceptable!

It is just plain aweful. Warner HAD to have screwed the pooch on this transfer for it to be this bad. They need to re-issue it fixed. It does have some amazing 3D scenes but the ghosting throughout is soooo distracting.

I haven't seen the film to comment, but Jeff responded to your post:

I agree this transfer totally sucks! I have the original 2d bluray and double dipped. Then I purchsed better quality glasses and it is still bad. I've seen the movie several times in IMAX 3d and it is awesome. My expectations were not as high being the home, non-polarized lense 3d technology, but this movie transfer is bad.

The 3D is Okay altought limited by this 50 years old technology. the 2D is the exact same transfert as the 15gig HD DVD and it's full on banding everywhere..

Remember to crank up the brightness, diminish the contrast and color. It takes a fine balance setting these items to achieve decent 3-D viewing. Watch it in a very dark room.

I thought P-Exp 3D looked fine on my 52-inch Sharp Aquos. So did Journey 2 the Center of the Earth.

I was so pleased that I hope Beowulf and more 3-D movies come to Blu-ray.

I went back to Best Buy with mine and demanded a refund as the 3-D version is absolutely horrific.....and to comment on other posts....there should be NO NEED to be screwing around with my color, brightness, contrast...etc to be able to view a movie.....Warner Blu's suck most of the time...this is NO difference

There is no setting you can change to fix this garbage ghosting. I am watching on a new Panny 3000u projector with the 120 hz frame rate on and am viewing on a carada brilliant white 118 inch screen in a dedicated theater room. So out goes the dark room theory and refresh rate theory. I tell you what, Warner has some serious issues. There is NO way it looked like this in the theater, no way!

Didn't Sony Pictures Imageworks actually do the 3D version? I don't see what the problem is, it looks exactly like every other 3D movie.

overreacting.

the original imax release was rather dull to begin with.
the 3-D effect was hardly a winner.

It didn't. They used a different kind of 3D effect for cinema's that can't be used on all TV sets if I remember correctly.

Holy Crap!! Just set it to 2-D and enjoy the movie. If anyone bought this thinking a Blue/Red filter 3-D presentation would look good, you were just diluting yourself.

Just enjoy the movie for what it is. A good Christmas movie/story.

Ok, whatever. If you guys can't see terrible ghosting then I guess you don't know what to look for. I didn't buy it just for the 3D either, but it would be nice to the 3d version without all the problems. I see this forum is well on its way to going the way of AVS soon.

Just change to like "standard mode" on your tv, or something. Journey to the center of the earth looks pretty good with that.

I totally agree that the 3-d effect is absolutely horrible on this disc. I received my copy from amazon and I thought I had a defective disc so I contacted amazon for an exchange. They sent me another but it is exactly the same so it seems they are all defective and Warner should issue a recall and an exchange program for this. I started to watch it in 3-d and had to stop the movie a couple of minutes into it because it was just unwatchable. It has nothing to do with settings or anything, the 3-d just wasn't encoded properly. I have Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-d and it was good in 3-d but this is terrible. DO NOT BUY THIS if you are only looking to watch it in 3-d although the 2-d is good.

Thank you ajmrowland... This is basically what I have been trying to relay to the hot heads on this thread who keep flaming the 3-D version of this film (and Journey 2tCotE). Both films look GREAT on my Sharp Aquos. Maybe it doesn't work well on low-end displays.

Boy...that's condescending...

This thread inspired me to finally get registered so I can post on this. I've seen POLAR EXPRESS in 3-D and know that you can see consistent colors, textures, and some cool effects when you see it in the theater. I bought this Blu-Ray the day it came out and watched it on a 3-month old SONY 46XBR5 BRAVIA 46" 1080dp set...hardly a piece of junk. The people who say that the quality is unacceptable are ABSOLUTELY right. Ghosting on everything, color drained out completely -- it absolutely, positively did NOT look like that in the theater...no overreacting about it, just the truth. If by some way it looks good to some of you guys, that's fine. But I don't think everyone (including myself) are lying to you or are complete morons.

Now, I love this movie and am just as happy to watch the 2-D version. But, having to pay almost 10 bucks more for an absolutely awful 3-D transfer makes me pretty upset.

3D has always been a joke.

Has ANYONE ever seen an impressive 3D presentation at home or at a movie theater? No.

So my question to those complaining, why did you think this would be different? Of course there's ghosting, that's the 3D "effect" that is supposed to make Tom Hanks face lunge out of the screen when you put on those stupid glasses.

So I implore everyone to put down your pair of cardboard glasses and stop making studios think we like this charming albeit, but altogether stupid gimmick.
