Default Comcast or Direct Tv

If you don't want to read and want the bottom line, skip to the bottom:
Otherwise, read:
I'm having a bit of a mental breakdown I think and I can't seem to make a decision. Right now I have direct tv, which personally speaking, I am in love with their HD quality. However, I cannot stand their customer service and I hate even more when my HD channel craps out for even a brief moment.

Then there is comcast, I was a customer and switched to save money and now oddly enough, I'm looking to switch back to save money.

I had verizon dsl which comcast blew away in speed and service.

So, I could get comcast internet, keep direct tv. Or I could switch to comcast completely. My real question is, has comcast HDTV improved and if so, do people find it comparable (equal to) direct tv? I'm a picky bastard and want my as good as I possibly can have it.

Bottom line:
Comcast or DirectTV. Discuss please

You need to find out what Comcast HD channel line up is first. I have Brighthouse and Charter in my area and the # HD channels don't compare with what you can get on Direct TV or Dish Network.

I would probably look into Dish Network as an alternative to Direct TV if I were you, before going to a cable company.

I have Direct TV.I am thinking about switching to Comcast also.
I have been with Direct TV for over 10 years and really have no problems with them.
To get results fast from Direct TV when you call them up just say that you ant to cancel the service and you will get help ASAP.I did this a couple a time already and they usually lower the monthly bill for 6 month or so and then it goes back up.

The other reason I suggest Comcast is, like most cable companies, you are not on a contract and can leave at any time.

I don't think it will do you much good to discuss this here. Whereas DirectTV is basically the same everywhere, Comcast varies wildly from market to market. Maybe if you mentioned the area in which you live someone living there could comment on Comcast. Otherwise, I'd suggest hitting Comcast's site and looking at the HD channels they provide in your area and compare it to DirectTV.

In my area, their On Demand service is complete crap. Much of it is on different channels and extremely slow to load. If you go to the main On Demand channel, you sit and wait for it to load. Then if you navigate to HBO On Demand, it tunes to another channel and you wait for that to load. All the while you're hoping it doesn't crash or freeze up the box (which it did frequently forcing you to unplug the box to get it to reboot).

You might also want to look at the equipment they will be giving you to use. I had a piece of crap Scientific Atlanta box, actually 3 of them as none of them functioned very well. My sister-in-law also has Comcast (served by a different subsidiary) but she has a Motorola box that has a much nicer interface than the SA box (which had an interface that was a throwback to the 80's). I was so happy when I got a Tivo HD and could get rid of that box (well, I was happy 3 days later when their customer service finally set up the Cablecard properly and I was actually able to get all the channels I subscribed to).

I have had Comcast cable and internet since 2001, except for a 4-hour period one Saturday in January 2007, when I had Direct TV. (Their sales agent told me I would receive my local channels in HD....wrong ) I had just gotten a new HDTV and Comcast did not have any HD receivers and did not know when they would get any.

I finally got an HD receiver from Comcast and all has been well until recently....many of my HD channels freeze-up and pixellate. Cable guy came out and declared that this was due to the cold weather and that he would have to report it to maintenance. I called customer service about a week later because the HD channels were still malfunctioning. They promised that the problem would be fixed within a week. Well, a week has passed and the HD channels still don't work.

I am on the verge of calling Direct TV, not out of anger, just because it does not appear that Comcast is going to be able to provide me with HD programming. Their solution is to watch these channels on the SD channel. Apparently they are unaware as to what SD looks like on and HDTV.

At this point, I would have to recommend Direct TV to you.

You should be able to work a good deal with them.I know they hate to loose customers and they are even better to deal with new customers.

DirecTV makes the Mediacom that I had available look awful in pq/aq, line-up, and customer service.

One day I just unhooked my cable boxes and drove them directly to the area office and dropped them off. I had to take the day off work for a service call to fix my premium channels which were not playing; because they could/would not work saturdays. I called a few days before and first thing in the AM on the day of the appt because I had been burned before. As the day grew longer, I called back with growing frequency; and was assured each time that they were indeed coming. Finally at 5:30 I was informed that they were not coming and that it was "not their job to let me know if they were not going to be able to make it."
