Thumbs up Sony KDS-60A3000 firmware update experience.

Well just recieved my free Sony KDS-60A3000 firmware update (T) and my de-interlaced 1080p->1080i signal looks significantly better !!

From Sony:

"Sony is aware of a reviewer's article stating that some of the SXRD models listed above could not resolve the finest details of a specific 1080i test pattern. This occurs for HDMI and component inputs 1,2 or 3 only in Cinema and Custom Picture modes." etc etc..

I have the update if anyone would like to "borrow" it and return!

I have the same TV as you. How did you hear about the firmware update? Did Sony automatically mail it to you, or did you have to request it?

I had to request it . I found people having issues at the AVS forums.. I checked my firmware and it was S not T. So I went to the sony site and requested it, came in 2 days.

My previous XBR1 SXRD (1080i input 1080p output crap) was much better than the A3000 displaying 1080i and I was dissapointed. I did some research to find out Sony had a firmware update apparently for this. Once I installed the update my 1080i became true again..

I purchased this TV from BB about a month ago and it was already outdated (S) firmware.. so go figure.

Check your firmware.. go into the XMB menu.. product support.. it will display your firmware.. if the last letter is not "T" you need the update.

Because of the native 1080p input on the A3000, it has to de-interlace 1080p into i and without the "T" update it doesnt do a very good job of it.

It will help the 1080i display significantly. Now I get incredible 1080p along with 1080i.

The update comes in a sony microvault 64mb usb flash. It takes all of 2 minutes at the most plugged into the usb service port in the rear.

Sidenote: This TV displays a much better picture than the Panasonic 50" plasma with the same source and movie my parents have.

Well I tried the copy the .iso and files from another user and site.. onto my usb, it didn't work. So I bit the bullet and just ordered it from Sony online as they will not send you the update unless you have "problems".

I am looking for the site.

You can rip the CD to a ISO image.

Edit: I have the same display but have the T version of the firmware.

I have a question. The sony site says this affects a pinkish image. What does this do to a set that was calibrated?

If you're up to it, the file and instructions can be found here: #6892
I downloaded the BIN file and placed it on to a 512mb drive. The update worked perfect for me.

As Yoshi stated
Quote:
AGAIN im not responsible if you brick your system. but heres a link to the files. i created a .rar w/ par files. google it if you dont know how to use them. also a link to the .bin file directly. again, im not responsible if you brick your system. btw, you must name the folder in thumbdrive/usb device to " sony_dtv_s " im not sure if it has to be a 64mb sony drive or not. or if it has to be by itself(only file in device). again, im not responsible.
Good Luck!
