Default Amazon shipping

I posted this in the Lost thread, but no one had an answer. I figured it would get more attention if it had its own topic.

I'm ordering Lost and The Dark Knight on amazon, two day shipping.

When do you think I will get it? I know sometimes they'll ship it out on a Monday, and I'll get it Tuesday or Wednesday on two day. I haven't done that in a while, so has anyone preordered a movie recently with two day that can tell me when theirs came?

do you have prime?

if so, it is a hit or miss with either getting it the day of or the day after
if you just did normal two day shipping, I would expect them to ship the day of the release and then you receive it two days later

Nope, don't have prime. But do you think they handle the people that have prime and the people that are just paying $11 for the two day differently?

If you ordered it with 2 day shipping, you will get it in 2 business days or less.

For the most part, I get my new releases from Amazon on Tuesdays, with 2 day shipping. They normally ship out Monday night. Sometimes I get them on Wednesday, but, not that often. I got Wall-E on Monday but it shipped on Friday one of the few I have gotten early. I think it will depend on where you are to there closest fullfillment center.

They (typically) ship pre-orders on Mon prior to the Tues street date. So it's easy to deduce to that if you selected two day shipping, you'll get it on Wed, pending the carrier not dropping the ball. It's pretty simple to figure out

BTW, Amazon PRIME has nothing to do with it.

It all matters where they ship from. If there is a distribution center near you you will likely get them on release date but if it is further away it will be Wednesday. I usually get my new releases (shipped 2 day) on release date because the distribution center is only about 300 miles away.

How do you find out where a distribution center is?

Tracking numbers shows the origin...pretty simply stuff
Further, it's irrelevant when you consider you pay for shipping in X # of days. You'd figure if you were so worked up about when something would arrive that you'd just buy it locally on Tues and avoid shipping.

Lucky guys! 2-Day shipping is something I can dream of.

I finally sent Amazon on email to let them know how displeased I am with their shipping as of lately. They usually used USPS Priority Mail to send to Hawaii when I paid for standard shipping, but lately all my orders have been sent using this Parcel Pool service, which takes more than 2x the time to get to me.

Anyways here is what I wrote and their response -don't mind the way I wrote, you only have so many characters you can use to email them through one of their forms- (I know there are some other Hawaiians on here as well as people from Alaska, so this might be of interest for you as well)

-----------------------

Hello-

I have a few remarks I would like to make about the shipping changes that have been happening over the last few weeks / months.
First of all I must say that I am pretty displeased with the shipping option of
Parcel Pool. Whatever happened to USPS Priority Mail? I live in Hawaii and Parcel Pool takes an average of 10-14 days to get here. I am not talking about the "free shipping" option. I paid for regular standard shipping for all my recent orders, yet they are still being sent via Parcel Pool. There does not seem to be a particular problem with the delivery from your warehouse to Hawaii, but the transit time afterwards is much longer than needed. Sometimes the package is at the destination place for 3-5 days and not being delivered. When I contacted USPS to check if I might be able to go pick it up somewhere they told me to contact the shipper. Why still use Parcel Pool although I pay for standard shipping and not grant the 3-5 day Priority Mail? USPS offers Flat Rate Envelopes which to the regular consumer cost $4.80 regardless of its weight if you use an online label and I am sure, your company as much as it ships, will get a volume discount.

Further I am very disappointed in no changes to Amazon Prime. I was lucky to get an account through a family member on the US mainland to find out that the UPS shipping does not apply to Hawaii. UPS does offer "Ground" shipping to Alaska and Hawaii for a higher price of course, but why not add a few extra dollars for the Prime membership for people living in those states. Then the thing that really ticks me off is that I will not even receive free Standard Shipping although I am a Prime member.
There need to be some changes as a lot of people living here feel really ripped off.

I sincerely hope that you do have a look at my above comments and contact me.

Thank You.

Here is their reply-

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com with your comments.

Thank you for sending us your comments about "Parcel Pool".

We are aware that our choice of delivery services reflects on our business as a whole, and we appreciate your feedback. I've forwarded your message to our shipping department, as I know they will want to read about your experience.

Due to the high transportation costs imposed by carriers for deliveries to
Alaska and Hawaii, we are unable to offer shipping benefits under the Amazon Prime membership program to these destinations at this time.

Currently, expedited orders shipped to Alaska and Hawaii incur an additional
$15.00 for items delivered overnight and $10.00 for items delivered in two
business days.

For a complete description of our shipping options and prices, click the "Help"
link at the top of our home page or visit this URL:

http://www.amazon.com/help/shipping

We apologize for the inconvenience these restrictions may cause.

However, I have passed your message on to the appropriate department in our company for consideration. Customer feedback like yours is very important in helping us continue to improve the selection and service we provide.

We appreciate the time you have taken to share your feedback with us. It's
important for us to hear how customers feel about all aspects of shopping at
Amazon.com, so we can continue to improve our store and the service we provide.

If you need any further assistance in this regard, we kindly request you to
contact us using the below help link so that it would help us to assist you more to your satisfaction.
--------------

Now I really hope they will check on this and do some changes as I for one will definitely not wait 10-14 days any longer to get my movies!

I have been ordering from other sites as well and gotten my package within 3-5 days for Priority Mail or even 10 days for regular Airmail.

When I used to order regularly from Amazon I would use super saving and still receive about I'd guess 80% of my packages on release day. It was more the oddity for me not to receive it then.
