Kansas is a toss up with HD DVD...only 50% of the retailers are reporting at this time.

But I "think" 3,422 new blu ray players were sold today and that 7,342 blu ray movies were sold today as well.

It will be interesting to see the numbers. Best Buy was loaded with the Sony S-350 players and the Samsung 1500. I went in today and there was not one S-350, but plenty of Samsungs. WM was completely sold out of Blu Ray players, as was my local Target. Word of mouth just might get around how popular these things are then.....presto

I sure hope you're right, most the stores around me were sold out as well, guess it took off more than people thought it would normally.

Not to mention... Christmas is coming up and I imagine player/movie sales will take off (no matter what they say about this being the worst Christmas ever).

Honestly, I don't find no humor in your post, or insinuation. That was a serious incident where a human, possibly a father, died because 'shoppers' turned into animals. In Palm Desert, California two men died after an arguement in a Toys'R'Us and both pulled guns out and shot eachother. Seriously, what is this world coming to. Incidents like this make me do more and more shopping online. I want to see my children grow up. And sadly every year, Black Friday gets more and more dangerous. Think about it BirdMan, would you have made that post/comment if you knew the person who died? I think not. But hey, too each his own.

I was shopping again last night and once again visited both CC & BB. Talking to sales people and watching customers, it's looks like holiday shopping is going very well. Sellng lots of BR players along with HDTV's and computers. However, I live in a pretty upscale area so I don't know if sales are going this well in other areas. Hopefully, I will be going to the King of Prussia mall in the next week or so.

Who knows when it is all said and done, there might not be anymore black friday. It is true people act like savages when it comes to these things. Saving a few bucks is definately not worth somebody's life. Just freeking ridiculous. They need to govern these things more, put some kind of regulations, I dont what, but they need to do something about it.

It's really sad when people loose their lives over things like this because people can't act like humans instead of trying to be the first one to get the hot item. What's even more sad is that customers were irate because the police had to close the store over this incident. But then if it wasn't for Wal-Mart there probably wouldn't be any "doorbuster" sales anyway since they are the ones who started all this madness of opening at 5 am and announcing "limited quantities" just so they could make an extra buck. Other retailers just followed suit. I remember when I was a kid the earliest stores opened on Black Friday was 8 am and you never knew that the quantities were limited. But people sure went crazy over Teddy Ruxpin and Cabbage Patch Kids.

My brother took his 8 month old son (who just recovered from a cold) with him at 4 AM to do some Black Friday shopping. Made me want to smack him on the head.

Some places did do something in fact. The store I went to at 5 AM on BF, passed out vouchers for the S350 going for $177, and other stuff like HDTVs up to 46" LCDs 1080p going for $500, so that no one would get trampled to death when the doors opened. It worked. Nobody got hurt, injured, or killed. Hundreds had lined up at the door too.

The same thing happens at rock concerts. We still have those despite people getting hurt when they open the doors. I would say that BF is here to stay too.

BTW, the S350 vouchers ran out fast and the S350s were gone as soon as the doors opened. I bet it was like that across the country. The Panny 35 BD player was over $50 more. I didn't see anyone buy one out of the hundreds who were in that store. I saw only a couple people in the check out line, that I waited in for nearly an hour, buy the Samsung 1500 which was going at the same price as the S350. Those poor folks were too far back in the line and never got a voucher for the S350. Sony really tipped the sale scales on that day if my experience in that store was any indication of what the sales were elsewhere. I was one of the lucky ones who got the S350 for $177.
